Machine Head have had quite a revival in terms of public perception since their nu metal experimentation. The Blackening, with its extended blasts of intense yet melodic and hooky modern thrash, was one of the best received metal releases of the last decade, and a personally significant album. Rather than attempting to outdo the 'epic' nature of that release, they followed it up with Unto The Locust, toning down both the song and album length and making more melodic and arguably accessible songs, without sacrificing their core sound or writing capabilities. The question is, where does the band go next?

I think it's fair to say they'll never exceed The Blackening, but this is a very respectable release.

They already exceeded The Blackening with their vastly superior debut Burn My Eyes.

And this for sure!

For once, I agree that something isn't progressive. This is more like alternative + (groove) thrash.

This is probably the band's worst album from their "prog thrash" era...

There's not much of anything left in this, except maybe length and singles.

My only suggestion to you is to work on your grammar, punctuation, capitalization and redundancy.

Better than "dickhead." Though I'm sure there's a good band with a fanbase sporting that name out there.

Their most varied album, which also means it's one of the most inconsistent albums I have ever listened to. Some songs (Now We Die, Night Of Long Knives, Eyes Of The Dead) are among Machine Head's best, while others (Damage Inside, Imaginal Cells, Game Over) are garbage. The rest are very "meh", interesting concepts but they either overstay their welcome (hey look Machine Head's trademark) or take the wrong turn.

Machine Head are progressive thrash now, and have been since 2003? I didn't realise making songs that were too long to justify the content counts as progressive.

The Blackening was definitely progressive, agreed for the other albums though. How does Robb spend 20+ years in mainstream metal and still not see how pointlessly long their songs are?
