Occultation's doom metal eludes expectations. Contained in Silence In The Ancestral House, the occult receives an unusually mixed meaning.

This album has a rich, prominent tone rooted deep in gothic music which continually reminds me of Candlemass' 80s era. For that reason I quite like it, and the way in which this tone is carried out consistently from start to finish makes songs like the brilliant 'The Place Behind the Sky' and slow but dramatic closing title track. The band's name may be pretty obvious as to what one would expect (Is "Occultation" even an actual word?), but they more than make up for this with the musicianship.

This is a quite good album, a pleasant surprise for me.
