Last time Slipknot released a studio album, they still served as one of my primary conduits to the metal scene. As I am no longer 14, Slipknot's angst-and-unorthodox-percussion-heavy brand of nu/alt metal lacks the same gravitas it once had, but I still enjoy Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses and Slipknot from time to time. You might call me a bit of a lapsed fan, but I'm enough of one to give .5: The Gray Chapter a fighting chance.

  Kill pop!
Troy Killjoy - 25.08.2014 at 20:57
They've only released two songs and neither qualify as pop.

Dumb comment.

I saw that but assumed he was being "clever" or something.

Probably makes me look dumber than I claimed his comment to be.

Also that sentence is lovely.

There's too much confusion, ambivalence and uncertainty in this thread. I say we ritualistically burn it and start again.
Troy Killjoy - 25.08.2014 at 22:50
Let's just pretend Ilham posted the MiB gif with the flashy thing.
Ilham - 25.08.2014 at 22:56

What were we talking about?
!J.O.O.E.! - 25.08.2014 at 23:00
Troy re-enacting The Graduate, or something.
Troy Killjoy - 25.08.2014 at 23:03
No we were talking about why this is .5 when the last thing they did number-wise was Vol. 3 unless you count that live album with all the Roman numerals.

Because it's their fifth studio album? S/T - Iowa - Vol 3 - All Hope is Gone - this.

You're so smart.
Hex_Omega - 25.08.2014 at 23:10
Haha of course my 'kill pop' was because of the song killpop

Yes I am serious, I don't understand your reaction to my simple question. I am aware they released two singles, but your sentence could have implied there were more songs to pick a favourite from. So I asked.

Gosh. It's called interacting.

Hey, sorry!! I didn't mean to give an annoying answer! Your question seemed a bit off context, considering that the album will be released only in October and they've released two songs so far...

It's okay . But off-context not really, October is in a fortnight, and we've seen big albums leaking two/three months before the official release date. But nevermind, let's drop it.

You're right... It's a shame it didn't happened (yet) with The Gray Chapter!

Rating: 9 I really enjoyed this album, got to listen to it a bit more before i can decide my rating though.

I've heard 6 tracks now. Like 1 of them. The Devil In I is pretty good but it all seems a bit dull compared too previous albums.
FishezzZ - 18.10.2014 at 21:57
I got the new album and it was GREAT!!!

Does anyone have the Deluxe Edition?

Frank Comstock - 21.10.2014 at 05:33

Listening right now. Good album so far. I dig it.
EntombedRainfall - 22.10.2014 at 18:38
I thoroughly enjoy this record, honestly, and think it's right up there with the rest of the band's catalog. I know Slipknot tends to get a lot of flack from metalheads for reasons beyond my appreciation but The Gray Chapter here is just an immensely dense album chockfull of feeling and darkness. If you appreciate music that is heavy and emotive then it's likely that you will find more than a couple things to appreciate on this one.
Sword_Chant - Today at 00:41
It's probably Slipknot's best album. So far i've only listened to this once, but from what I gathered their sound has matured a lot and musically it's their most interesting release. Not the very best i've heard from this year but overall a good return to form, and is one of the best alternative metal albums to come from 2014.

What a confusing post especially the bit that it's their best album after 1 listen!

What I meant was that in comparison to hearing all the other albums from their discography for the very first time, this album has left the best impression on me. I've given the album another listen since then and I still think this is their most interesting release.
