That's the hipsteriest black metal cover I've ever seen *.*

I'm definitely with you on that. I haven't listened to them in quite a while, but I remember enjoying two of their albums quite a lot. Definitely an interesting modern BM band that knows how to innovate when necessary

Not BM, but really solid post-hardcore. First half of the album in particular is stellar. That DRUMMING! Superb. Enjoyability=9 Musicianship=8.5 Innovation=7.8 Overall=8.6.

If that's true, Deafheaven and Sannhet are primarily post-hardcore acts

I think that they are. Post-metal, at least. I honestly think I would respect them a bit more if they called themselves that instead of BM. Same with all of the bands nowadays that call themselves "punk" despite having very little to do with it at all.

I can hear some post-rock elements, alongside the metalgaze stuff, but would definitely put them under black metal first of all, if not norwegian 2nd wave. And don't hear much in the way of post-metal, and no post-hardcore at all from what I know of that genre. As it is, the first half is pretty solid, but as it gets more Deafheaven-y in the second half (particularly on Washerwoman) I lose some interest in it. Decent enough though

Norwegian 2nd wave? Nonsense. This has more commonality with Touche Amore than Darkthrone. But then again, I'm the guy who frequently makes wide leaps between bands so what do I know ? Either way, I agree that the first half is better than the second.

By the Norwegian 2nd wave comment, I meant to say that it doesn't sound like that, but does fall combortably under black metal in my opinion

Okay, because that made me feel as confused as some of the people who read my comments I imagine. I still disagree, but, ya' know...opinions. If you want to hear a great BM album this year that is just plain 2nd wave through and through, check out the new Corpus Christii.

Sounds like Thantifaxath + Altar of Plagues. At Night is a great track. Solid album.
