If there was an award this year for "most ambiguous album cover," it would probably have to go to Vattnet Viskar's Settler. Although the image itself reveals almost nothing about the music within, the image that it recreates has powerful implications of blissful unawareness of a fast approaching doom, somber themes that Vattnet Viskar seem to capture with their heavy and airy sound.

I'm just hearing this band for the first time ever and that's thanks to that cover which must be one of the worst of all time.

Doing a bit more research unveils a mind-blowing detail about the picture.

The artwork is a recreation of this image.
She's Christa McAuliffe. The teacher that followed the other six astronauts members of the Space Shuttle Challenger which desintegrated mid-air. After I found out I actually started to love the choice of artwork. It's almost like displaying the blissful ignorance about the fact that you are going to die pretty soon. Christa is from the same area as the band too.

I guess that's an interesting thought and that the guys wanted a what-the-fuck-is-this-cover.

I love this. Hadn't heard of the band before now, and this album is thoroughly satisfying. The first two quarters of this year have delivered some excellent music. Hopefully the rest of the year follows suit. Favorite tracks: Colony, Yearn, Impact.

(8.5/8.5/7.5: 8.5) I have similar misgivings with calling this "black" as with Bosse-De-Nage, but this manages to sound at least a little heavier at times. I really enjoy the instrumentation quite a bit. The drums throw down some cool patterns while the guitar channels everything from post-rock to post-black. The bass groove on "Glory" along with some of the spacy guitar parts reminded me of Deftones, and the ripping solo that closes the album on "Coldwar" is just stellar. My one complaint, and it's a big one, is the vocals. They are so shrouded in distortion as to lose any presence or feeling. I honestly think the album would have been better instrumental or with some post-hardcore vocals a la Touche Amore. That said, the rest of the music is so lush with catharsis that it keeps me coming back regardless. Highly recommended. Full review HERE

I would love to see how that artwork ends up relating the band band's lyrics on this album, if at all.

I am the Magician and the Exorcist. I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. “Come unto me” is a foolish word: for it is I that go.

I like the cover, It can be because it's untypical, or because the girl is cute. That said, the music is far from impressive.

Solid post-black with some post-hardcore prinkles on top. It just lacks the X factor for me. But damn that ending IS good.
