Cheers to whoever added the profile.

This is one heck of an album. An amazing avant-garde, psychedelic trip that draws heavy, apparent, inspiration from Aluk Todolo and Virus, with exceptional care taken with conception, songwriting, sound and production. Makes the new Oranssi Pazuzu feel patently amateur, and tussles for the top spot with the new Aluk Todolo.

The first track gave off a vibe that this was going to be some free jazz wankfest that I'd hate. Thankfully I gave the rest of it a chance and found it to be a really intriguing and quite compelling dark, jazzy, groovy, slightly subdued venture. One of the better releases I've heard so far this year, even if right now that doesn't mean all that much

I suspect you may not like Aluk Todolo if that intro didn't do it for you glad you thought this was ok though.

I'll go in ready to hate it and if I don't I'll consider it a positive! Noise isn't really my favourite genre so I'm not expecting much from it though haha

Didn't really take Joe's word for it but since I've spun this album 4 times today I can safely say this fucking blows the Aluk Todolo album right out of the park. This has a much more emotional impact and that "human" factor that Voix lacks but I am not able to say why, maybe its due to the vocals but its also due to songwriting as well which is not as all out crazy as Voix. Outstanding album and really addictive as well. Oh and the closer is worth a special mention.

Amazing album indeed. For the first time I feel like I understand the hype
And yea, better than AT's and OP's efforts of this year.

Still, seeing OP and "amateur" being mentioned on the same sentence gave me shivers and malaises.

Well, amateur by comparison anyway. There's a completeness to this which I don't think OP have ever quite attained.

This just shows how much we need virus-esque bands around. Really a shame not many bands are aping them.
Great record for sure, but I have trouble accepting it as avantgarde black metal. Avantgarde metal would be sufficient.

Be careful, or before long every band will be aping Virus

I have no problem with that
but really, I assume that virus is a hard band to ape.
Also, the fact that we do not see many copycats already suggests that there will never be too many virus apes.

There isnt any "aping" going on here more than any other band. They are both influenced by post-punk and goth rock. Virus didnt invent this sound

I hear some superficial similarities, but not sure how you can really equate Virus's complex musical approach to basic punk chords and simplistic noodling. (Hell, you like wiki articles if I recall, it even says on Virus's Wiki page that they have their own characteristic sound!) Pogavranjen certainly sound far more like Virus, Oranssi Pazuzu, Aluk Todolo, etc. than Bauhaus, and on a fundamental level borrows much more from krautrock and psych-rock than it ever would from post-punk I would wager.

Ofc they sound more like V, OP, AT than Bauhaus, its 40 years between them. And krautrock is a good bet, but Virus didnt invent the sound

V Good ++++ album this.

Virus / Ved Buens Ende effectively ordained a highly distinctive way of playing that is immediately recognisable as their own, not to mention emulated by a variety of bands, so I would say they did invent a new sound.

Why the fuck am I seeing comparisons to Bauhaus? Next thing you know this is Botch worship.

Anyways, great album. I, for one, don't think it comes even remotely close to the new Aluk Todolo, but then again not many things do. That album effectively blew me away and continues to do so.

How is it even possible that you cant understand why Bauhaus is mentioned here? Your reading skills must be even worse than your listening skills Well, Ill give you the answer. I had a discussion with JOOE what the influences to this is. Thats why the comparisons to Bauhaus is here. Read the topic again please.
And if your musical references are so underdeveloped that you never heard Bauhaus or any other post-punk "fuck" words wont help you. ill suggest you start listening to this and then try som post-punk. And while your at it you can read some reviews, I suggest you start with this http://www.merchantsofair.com/reviews/pogavranjen-jedva-cekam-da-nikad-ne-umrem

Bauhaus' first album is actually a favorite of mine, but the comparison is ridiculous and far-fetched.

Fuck me, Bauhaus. I forgot about that Even the vocal approach is nothing alike. Any influence here is so far removed that it's not even worth mentioning. Probably has far more in common with the No Wave scene than goth rock and post-punk.

Also: "I also guess placing this in the realm of acts like Bauhaus, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Melvins, Ulver, John Zorn and Mr. Bungle is quite safe to say." Yeah safe to say if you have no idea how to pin down a band's sound and decide to throw out a bunch of totally different sounding pioneers instead, most of which have no real correlation to this band. Lazy.

Revisiting this as it's been a while. Really hard to construct meaningful year lists when a year is such a long time and the stuff you had back in February etc. seems like a distant memory. This album definitely deserves a spot in any end of year list though.

Listened to this again today. Such a massive and emotional record. I especially find the vocals supremely effective for the music and which elevates it to a whole different level. Don't think anything other than the new Arizmenda can topple this from the best of this year's black metal. And that does include the albums by Ustalost, Aluk Todolo, Skaphe etc.
