Lol, this is basically Amon Amarth playing black metal. Actually sometimes this sounds way more cheesy melodeath than black. Sickly sweet and chord progressions that telegraph themselves from half a minute away. Not bad though, quite fun. Reminds me of Forefather a tad too, unsurprisingly.
[edit]
Ok, after nearly a whole album's worth it does get a bit saccharine, just like AA. I think I need some Crowhurst to balance things out.

The theme is about the Patriots of Quebec. https://www.marxists.org/history/canada/quebec/patriotes-rebellion/introduction.htm

I couldn't finish this for the same reasons JOOE has, he even made me revisit AA with my most preffered album of their catalog, OSFTGH. Even with that I had trouble retaining my attention in the end.

I'm wondering about their past albums, if they follow a similar formula. Guess I'll have to check.
(Haven't forgotten about your FB messages, btw. Just amazingly bad at replying!)

I like this. Guilty-pleasure Meloblack that seems to occupy the same headspace as Mgla's album from last year.

Yep, this is a great record, it has such an epic feel to it and a ton of great melodies. I like the cover-art too. "Spectre De La Rébellion", "Par La Bouche De Mes Canons", and "Le Sang Des Héros" are the main three tracks which stand-out for me.
