On my first spin of it and it sounds monstrous, as was to be expected.

Vocals sound really caricature-ish. "My cave is deeper than yours." Guitars sound weirdly muffled too. I don't think this is a keeper considering how much great stuff of this is out there, and that Condemnation seemed a little more balanced and meatier sounding *shrug*

Albums rarely need much time to get to know, especially not a fairly straightforward revivalist OSDM release. It's quite a few years behind the best in the field. The new Vanhelgd beats this by quite a margin, and even that's not amazing.

Latest Vanhelgd is much faster than this. This sounds more like doomy osdm, so the comparison isnt spot on. And the vocals here - the cave is indeed deep

Still both revivalist OSDM though, and this has its fair share of pace at many points, but one is simply better than the other. I really don't see what you find so interesting about this release. There's so much better out there.

No. There isnt much better than this at the moment. Thats how good it is. For discerning music fans Its dark, old(ish) and beatiful. Listen to the closer - Charnel Winds. Such a beauty.

I think that's more because there simply isn't that much of it this year and what there is is becoming homogenised, so it's a take-what-you-can-get situation, rather than this being a standout record. I think the OSDM trend is finally slowing down; probably because ideas are running out. I'll stick with that nice Eucharist record released on Iron Bonehead earlier this year. Has much more bite to it, better sound and generally more memorable songs.

Eucharist is a better comparison, sounds good.

It's quite basic and short but they have the essentials down on it.

I haven't heard the whole thing yet, but the songs revealed ("Adrift In Sepulchral Entropy" and "Fortress Of Burden And Distress") sounded immense.
