The change in production style really sets this apart from the rest of their albums. Not that it's so much better or the others are so much worse, but just in the way the intricacies are allowed to breathe and shine compared to previous releases. It feels simultaneously dense and clear, especially with the calculated cymbal work so high in the mix. The elongated melodies sound more harrowing and hypnotic as a result as well, courtesy of Randall Dunn. His work with acts like Boris, Earth, and Sunn O))) is all the evidence needed to understand his expertise.
"Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something."
