Of all the different metal genres, the ‘blackgaze’ or ‘metalgaze’ niche is one that I’m perhaps most neutral to, which is why when an album comes along that makes a more lasting impression than just ‘enjoyable’, there’s all the more reason to savour it. Having made several comparison to Heretoir’s The Circle when outlining my mixed emotions concerning their new release Nightsphere, it felt appropriate to dive into what makes The Circle such a standout release.

Don't know what happened to the band since the total snorefest that was their debut, but this is a huge improvement. Great songwriting, massive production, and at 65 minutes there's a lot of stuff to dig into. Of course it's nothing original but fans of the genre should definitely listen to it.

Yeah, not sure it should count as depressive BM, seems a lot closer to the blackgaze sound. Pretty solid however

One of the best albums of 2017 I really like it.
But I think the genre should be something like Depressive Rock/Black Metal, it's definitely not Depressive black metal

If there had been a Metalgaze category in the 2017 MS awards , this would have received my vote.

This is a pretty solid post-black gazey album, it's more blackgaze than this year's Nightsphere, although I must say, I slightly prefer the style they were going for here. It's just a shame that it's too long for what it is, I do feel like it unnecessarily drags on in certain parts.
