First two singles were disappointing. Hopefully the rest of the album is better.

Edit: ...and indeed it was. #2017disappointments

it is better, but it is still a disappointment, but rated 8... I perceive mixed signals!
:-P
I will buy it myself soon, anyway...

I meant it was indeed a disappointment, not it was indeed better - I see now how that isn't clear at all

I do quite like this band, but there's something about them that stops them really standing out to me compared to other 'big' prog bands such as Karnivool, Leprous and more. But it's the kind of thing that's so nebulous I have no idea how to phrase it. All I know is that I enjoyed this a fair amount whilst listening to it, but nothing really made an impact in the way most of Malina, or most of Clairvoyant managed to.

Edit: However, Graves is really fantastic

After repeat listens this is one of my album's of the year. It has such a raw emotion and beauty that flows throughout the album that just hits me in just the right spot. Aussies were killing it this year between this, Voyager, and Ne Obliviscaris.

I really connected with Bloom and this one was initially fairly off-putting. But it's been aging really well for me, and it's probably the first album I've found in five years that has lyrics that mean anything at all to me. It's a very good album. Mellower than expected, but layered and beautiful and thoughtful.
