If you have a soft spot for symphonic death metal, Septicflesh is beyond doubt the band to satisfy your needs. Since their rebirth, the Greek lords of brutal harmony have taken the genre to a different level that other acts can only dream of and have managed to put themselves in a class of their own. Codex Omega showcases once more the mastery of their style, though without any hidden surprises to spice it up.

Man, this album is nothing new or groundbreaking, but it is monstrous, dark, crushing, and heavy as hell! I enjoy it a lot! Much, much better than Titan....

I always have a lot of fun reading how much people care about album covers, and discuss them till they're blue in the face.

This is a very good album. You can always add symphonic elements, no matter how heavy the album is. You just have to do it as Septicflesh.

1. Septicflesh is still recycling the Sumerian Daemons/Communion formula. A lot of the songs here sound the same as on the previous 3-4 albums which kinda points to a big lack of creativity.

2. The vocalist has a great growling timber, but his clean vocals are horrendous. The Septicflesh guys have a nice sense of melody and I've always been wondering if Seth has ever heard himself singing his clean vocals. The clean vocals literally ruins most of the mid-songs. Luckily, as in the previous albums, he does not use them on all songs, otherwise, this would've been less than average. Why don't they make a smart move and hire a decent female a singer, I wonder? That kind of vocals is more fit for females.

3. Nice sound, great guitar tune, amazing growls, but the songwriting? Average at best. Get songs 1-3 and 9.

4. The last 3 tunes are movie soundtracks basically. Spiros' ad for Hollywood to notice him it seems. These 3 songs may point towards what Septicflesh will become in the next 5-10 years. Somebody needs to tell Spiros to not raise his hopes. Getting noticed by Hollywood hotshots without any familial or VIP connections is a rare affair. You have to be really special to get noticed without connections there, and these 3 tunes are not any better than what most of the modern movie soundtracks. They are well performed, easy to compose, harder to perform live as orchestra's aren't cheap.

Sotiris' vocals still suck quite a bit, but somehow here he doesn't bother me as he did on the previous albums. Thing is, they've just become repetitive. Of course they're still capable of writing overwhelming stuff (I especially love Enemy of Truth and Dark Art), but overall I feel like I'm listening to the same song since The Great Mass. Kudos for getting such a wide recognition, anyway.

I can be harsh on bands for not changing up their sound enough, but sometimes an album is just too good for that. I wasnt big on titan, in part bc it did sound allot like a great mass, but septic has a very unique sound and even though they ddnt completely change it up they still improved upon it. People bein too harsh.

The people trying to say they sounded the same since sumerian daemons: Did you even listen to that album?

They are well performed, easy to compose, harder to perform live as orchestra's aren't cheap.

You must be confused because:
a) the clean vocals are Sotiris Vayenas's and not Seth's (Seth is only growling). They also have an awesome sardonic sound, but taste is subjective. Female vocals would sound ridiculous.
b) the orchestral compositions are Chistos's (Antoniou) and not Spiros's (Seth's). So if someone wants to go to Hollywood, it would be Christos. If you think they are easy to compose, I suppose you are saying it because you are an accomplished musician yourself. I am not, so I don't find them so easy.
c) most importantly Sumerian Daemons has almost nothing in common with Codex Omega, you probably have never listened to this album at all. Codex Omega resembles to The Great Mass more than any other Septicflesh record in terms of the orchestra/metal balance as wells as quality-wise. Communion was and probably always be their magnum opus and one of the best death metal albums ever recorded.

The "chorus" (can you call it that?) of Enemy of Truth is absolutely insane. If you have a good set of headphones or speakers it just induces chills.

Absolutely excellent album. First death metal album I've enjoyed in quite a while.

d) "The last 3 tunes are movie soundtracks basically." - Where did you hear movie soundtrack in the last song - Trinity? Except that choir in the bridge, there is almost no classical symphony in that song. Sadly, you've probably never heard this album in its entirety....

He's probably talking about the three extra tracks in the deluxe edition that are purely orchestral

might be, overlooked them since they are bonus... anyway, they are so easy to compose that anyone could compose them my ass easy....

Just for the heads up! I think Metal Storm staff should hire a guy to check new accounts on daily basis... it's obvious that some jealous idiot is downvoting this album by making new profiles with almost identical emails and names... plus, all these profiles're made today... ban them!
And it's not the first time I see such crap here...
