I'm kind of disappointed by Part I. I will need to listen to it again, but it feels like they traded the brilliant parts of Blessed He With Boils for melancholic accoustic guitar songs. I get that it's part of the story they are trying to tell, but I got bored really quick while listening to it. I'm gonna give them another chance, but for the moment, I'm disappointed.

I was truly expecting my nth disappointment of 2017 after hearing the first two singles. I couldn't be more surprised and pleased. It's definitely not as hard hitting as their debut it's just as deep. I still prefer the debut, but after my 4th listen I'd be happy to listen to either. Still sounds like Xanthochroid - can't wait for the supposedly heavier Part II.

That's what Sam said on the Facebook album release live stream, so I think they'll live up to that

Wow! The Part I is bombastic as hell. I am not usually into this over the top cheesy theatricality, but I must admit it's executed perfectly. The quality of composition and sound is superb. Fucking epic!

Never judge an album for the intro's. And don't get me wrong, I believe this one is a good album, but the intro's made me expect that this was going to be the next big thing. Saying so, let's give it some spins to the second part.

A bit too much 'cinematic soundtrack' narration or dramatic non-metal parts, feels a bit too close to Rhapsody of Fire in those moments. A nicer balance with the strong metal parts would raise it up to an 8 for me.

I agree with this. I also don't like the production. I have similar problems with Insomnium.

In a word: beautiful
Underrated at 8.2 and is definitely not Black Metal (Progressive Folk Metal would be much more suitable).
9.1/10 in my books - 'In Deep and Wooded Forests of My Youth' and 'The Sound Which Has No Name' are the standout tracks. 'To Souls Distant and Dreaming' is slightly weaker than the rest but still great.
A shame Act II isn't as good. Also the screams also sound a LOT like Ihsahn (I was convinced he did guest vocals for this band)!

While I'm a fan of classical and orchestral music when it's done right, this one just feels a little dull and plain, I prefer Act II.
