Last week this record turned up in my album shuffle list of 2017. I listened to Covered In Black two times last year, as I usually do with every album I want to put on my end of the year list - the idea being that every album deserves a second listen/chance. This album, though, was, together with Beyond The Human Mind (Vandroya), the record I was disappointed by the most in 2017. Here we are well into 2018 and I decided to give it one more spin. As you might have guessed by the score I've given, this 3rd spin didn't change my mind about Covered In Black.

Felt like the songs were very disjointed in a bad way, long dragging songs, I'm sad about this one

The previous one and the one before were way better. I'm not saying this one is not worth a listen but, it doesn't seem to have those addictive songs that you have to play the whole year. There very interesting parts here and there. Middle eastern, Indian, dark themes, a good story behind the songs but I didn't find outstanding songs like let's say "Never Like This", "Breach of Faith" or "Horizons" on the previous album or "Hold Back Tomorrow", "World In A Dome" or "Golden Days" from the self titled.

One thing is for sure, this one needs repeated listens to grow on you so I'm waiting for that but knowing that I already played it 5 times in the past week, I don't think that I will change my mind about the overall album. I'll give it a 7.4, closer to a 7 than an 8.

Its among the albums that you have to listen more than once to really aprecciate it. One of the best albums of this year. Masterpiece!

Couldn't even get one spin of this album. It sounds so different. Maybe next time something will stick.

China was a neat
Weird fucking album, nothing here comes together at all. The sound and instrumentation is ok but the singing is just bad, fucking bad.

At best deranged
Lyrics are ok for the most part, sometimes they feel really forced though. "The New Delhi Assassination" and "Operation Cairo" have moments in them that sound too similar imo. I agree with others here that the album doesn't flow really well, which makes it harder to listen through in one sitting.

I like the darker tone and the overall production is really solid and helps to create a sometimes nice feel of middle eastern vibes which work really nice together with the darker tone I mentioned.

The vocals... well I liked the 2 previous singers more. Overall the vocals are pretty mediocre, It's ok I guess but there are definitely moments that don't sound good, the opening of "A Journey To Nowhere" is a good example of that. The higher notes throughout the record are a hit and miss as well in my experience.

Average record if you ask me. It has some nice moments (mostly from the instrumentation) but it hasn't really got outstanding moments.

Downvoted to 6. This album is really average and this album didn't grow up on me at all. Let's hope the next one will be their way back to light.
