I honestly hope he is just very successful at trolling. I find him hilarious with the language he uses in his reviews and stuff, but I also get why no one wants to be roasted by their peers
Listened to a Hercules album (the new one). Wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Definitly needs a better singer, though. Parts of it made me think of a lower grade Isengarde playing power metal.
01. Northern Chaos Gods 02. Into Battle Ride 03. Gates To Blashyrkh 04. Grim And Dark 05. Called To Ice 06. Where Mountains Rise 07. Blacker Of Worlds 08. Mighty Ravendark
Immortal have suffered for too long in the dreary melodrama of legal scrutiny. All Shall Fall was nine years ago already, and it was 21 years ago that Demonaz made his last appearance on an Immortal album. Abbath, amidst storms of public upset, returned to the music world in 2016 with a tumultuous dud. Northern Chaos Gods might just be the album Immortal needs at this moment.
I was disappointed in All Shall Fall when it first came out, but it's grown on me a lot over time.
It's going to be weird to have an Immortal album without Abbath on it, but I hope it's good. I loved March of the Norse, so I have no reason to think this won't be somewhere on that level with Demonaz at the helm. It's also pretty cool that Peter Tagtgren played bass for them on this one.
Sooo, after 9 years and no Abbath, this is what Immortal sounds like. Overproduced Battles In The North/Blizzard Beasts? Good enough for me consider it's 2018.
Btw, the single alone is better than anything on the Abbath solo album...
Fantastic album. Considered that Pure Holocaust is my fav album from Immortal, this is closely my 2nd favorite already. Fantastic atmosphere and riffs. Chaos and Blashyrkh! 10/10
I have to say it is a very good album, i was expecting something very average and here We are with a solid new record from Immortal despite Abbath's absence, nice!

It's not bad, a servicable replica of days gone, but the modern production and lack of Abbath on vocals sucks out some of the soul of this. There's just so much more exciting black metal around since this comeback. Arguably better than All Shall Fall though. Arguably.
I am the last person who would join a hype, but this album is damn good. Much better than All Shall Fall. If Abbath would've sung it, I would've given it full marks. Demonaz is not bad at vocals though. Abbath should learn from this. His album was kinda bland.
I've listened to this album... and then Winamp switched to the "At the Heart of Winter". The difference in style/quality is to me astronomical. The old albums are much more grim and frostbitten.

If you think this is the best black metal album of the year thus far, you need to listen to more black metal
---- I am the Magician and the Exorcist. I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. “Come unto me” is a foolish word: for it is I that go.
Or, alternatively, people are entitled to like whatever they like
I don't think my comment suggested that I don't think that, so I'll ignore the straw man and you implying that I'm somehow trying to police what people listen to/enjoy. I simply think that in this case the "whatever they like" you're mentioning is incredibly mediocre and generic

I prefer All Shall Fall, but everything else I totally agree with.

I relistened to that one and I'm not so sure now. All Shall Fall has much more of an "Immortal" feel to it than this one does so that would probably win out after all.
What a shame the rest of the tracks are not even comparable to the opener and that makes it the only song worth listening and hence this total album is slightly worse than All Shall Fall, what a waste. Should've rather released only a single.
This is best BM not in this year but last decade (even no) , but in principle, roots and not so popular site of BM lyrics, this album is insult to st. annists and if this will win msa it would be insult to elitrists and smart asses. Amazing album

I expected this album would be mediocre at best since it had been over 15 years since Abbath and Demonaz gave us a great album, either by working together or separately. Abbath's solo album was apparently what they were working on since All Shall Fall and it was almost completely forgettable. Demonaz writing this himself didn't sound promising because Demonaz's solo album was consistent but not terribly interesting. After Abbath split Demonaz said that he was taking over guitar and vocal duties. Demonaz's vocals sounded decent on his solo album but we haven't heard his guitar playing since Blizzard Beasts, and that certainly didn't inspire confidence whether his surgery had truly fixed his tendonitis or not.
I expected they would take a more old school approach to this album, but Demonaz and Horgh have returned with greater ferocity and aggression than arguably anything that has been produced by either of them or Abbath since Blizzard Beasts but this time presented in a precise, harsh, frostbitten, and chillingly evil production in the dead of summer. An odd choice for a release date, but even in the warmth of summer I can feel the snow with this album. I'm still kind of scratching my head wondering how they pulled this off so well. The album feels like it came right from the mid to late 90s but with better production. I feel like it has completely captured the essence of what Immortal always was, both during the previous Demonaz era and Abbath era, and what it always should be. Yes, this album leans much further towards sounding like the Demonaz albums, but there are still enough sections which incorporate the more mid pace epic and atmospheric elements from the Abbath albums.
I don't think this album could have been much better all things considered, but either way this is the best album that Demonaz and/or Abbath have made in the last 16 years. There is a passion and energy here that we haven't heard from these guys in a very VERY long time. Demonaz and the Immortal name have reclaimed their rightful throne. I just hope this isn't the last they have to offer, however for the first time this decade I can say I am looking forward to whatever Immortal does next and I'll be listening to what they've just done for quite some time until then.
