This is the third doom release by Transcending Obscurity Records I'm reviewing this year, after Eremit's Carrier Of Weight and Illimitable Dolor's Leaden Light, and I'm really having a hard time deciding which one is more transcending.

I have heard a few extreme doom albums that have this amount of versatility in them. Given extreme doom is supposed to be monotonic however for chalice of suffering this sound works really well. The album is definitely divided into two parts the more versatile sections in the first 4 songs and the more doomier ones in the latter part. The start is extremely melodic, it is actually filled with melodic elements. There are also certain symphonic elements to be found scattered here and there. If it weren't for the extreme funeral vocals this could almost pass through as a gothic metal album. The guitar jams in forever winter are one of the best I have heard in a long time.
