Especially if this is anything go by:

and also:

Both sound immense.

"Vanished Is The Haze" was the better track of those two, though it as well kinda lost its way. I think the band would have a better sound if they had rawer guitars and less bass.

1998 was about 14 years ago. 24 - 14 = 10.

Seeing as you don't even remember the exact year you heard of the band specifics are irrelevant

Yes, because I first heard some tracks from older releases, such as "Summer..." "Kathaarian...", and soon I heard the new release, which was Ravishing Grimness. I don't exactly remember the interval between those two happenings.

That would be impressive, surely with a cover like that they won't stick any old death/doom under it? Hopefully the music can live up to the artwork. I'll likely try that Youtube streaming some time this weekend.

Yeah i'm sure that will be a thing of beauty. Even the CD packaging looks unbelievable. I'm looking forward to flicking through that 28 page booklet.

IronAngel - 22.10.2012 at 11:54
After reading the comments here and seeing the awesome packaging, I was pretty stoked. But at least on first two listens it's surprisingly average. To me, it looks better than it sounds. Not bad, but I doubt it makes my top death doom records of the year. A very solid 3/5 or maybe a weaker 3,5/5, but not close to Faal, The 11th Hour and Lurk. Might fall somewhere between Derkéta and Evoken in terms of "how like am I to put this on."

Rating: 9 After all the praise surrounding this album I got curious and decided to check it out and despite my fairly high expectations I was not disappointed.

What I especially like about this album are the flawless transitions between the slow and pounding doom sections to the furious outbursts of pure death metal. On top of this are the excellent vocals which are varied enough as to never get tedious. The guitar play is also worth mentioning which managed to both send chills down my spine at times as well as provoke some serious headbanging.

One of the best death/doom releases of the year indeed.

Rating: 9 There have been a few excellent doom (in all its shapes and forms) releaes this year: Faal, Witchsorrow, Bong, Candlemass, Evoken, P.H.O.B.O.S., The 11th Hour, Altar of Oblivion, Worship - to name just a few that pop up immediately, but Indesinence might just outshine them all.

I was kidding about one of the above releases being excellent. I'm sure most of you can figure out which...

Haha, I was just about the point out Candlemass being the odd one out there, then I noticed your second paragraph

I finally figured out why I don't rate the new Indesinence higher, it is the many Celtci Frost references in the songs and I always found that band soso at best.

Those references really bring this album down. Now it's only omy numeber six in my extreme doom list of this year

What beats it? Because honestly this is probably top 3 doom albums of the year for me.

I was glad to see Decibel magazine list Evoken's latest as No. 3 on their top 40 albums of 2012 list.

As for Indesinence, I still haven't picked this up yet. The music is good enough but the packaging looks sweet too. It is on my Christmas wish list and I've made sure my wife knows.

I didn't think that there'll be another extreme doom album that I'll like more than Faal but this is marvelous.
treptolemus - 30.01.2013 at 18:41
Rating: 7 Definitely a massive release, deeply mood-altering.

So the main theme about light & decay, i find it controversial and thought provoking. I'd prefer more mellow moments.. suits better my taste maybe.

The artwork is good btw.
BlueMobius - 31.01.2013 at 18:25
Rating: 7 It's definitely a good album, but it's not great. There were several extreme doom releases that topped this one in 2012. Whenever I put on Vessels Of Light And Decay I couldn't stop asking myself, "Why am I not listening to Evoken right now?"
