Fen have had a fairly explorative musical journey thus far, one that I’ve resonated strongly with very specific sections of. I don’t know whether my enthusiasm towards Carrion Skies above all their other records is representative of the wider Fen fanbase, but those that share my view may be encouraged to hear that I feel this is the band’s strongest album since Carrion Skies.

Last Winter, Fen pulled out all the stops. This winter, it appears they decided that sometimes less is more, and have cut back accordingly.

Now that spring is approaching us again with flowers in bloom and birds singing, Fen from the ever-so-rainy United Kingdom deliver us their new album, called Winter. A little late maybe? However, every season is a good season for atmospheric black metal and therefore we shall not hesitate to take a closer look.
