Biography

Deep Underground was born in Alajuela, Costa Rica back in 2011. Initially it was a thrash metal band influenced by bands like Kreator and Megadeth and then, a couple of years later they turned their sound into a very aggressive but melodic death metal, the only member at that time was a 16 years old Andrés Maroto.
That same year Andrés met Gabriel Martínez who was the guitar player of a now extinct power metal band, nothing really happened with that project, there were no live shows or recordings but back when they were together they were looking for a keyboard player to join the band; that's how they met Sebastián Barrantes.

Andrés kept working in Deep Underground and he was able to assemble a complete lineup, Jose Daniel Barrantes joined to play the bass guitar and helped Andrés to compose new songs, then they performed a couple of live shows with original tunes and a couple of cover songs. Andrés was the lead singer back in the day and he also played the guitar. Some of the songs that were created by the band back then were recorded professionally and now those songs are part of their first full length studio work.

Jose Daniel suggested that Gabriel should join the band as a singer, as soon as the band started to rehearse with new singer they noticed that it was necessary to take the sound of the band to a new direction since the new vocal style was totally different and more aggressive, Sebastian joined the lineup to play keyboard and synthesizers they performed a couple of live shows with this line up, after those shows Andrés Bravo joined the band as the drummer for a short time, but that time was enough to make the band achieve a real death metal sound. After Andrés Bravo left the band in 2012, the band started to search for a new drummer, and that is how they met Eduardo "Tato" Chaves. With him the band continued to create new songs and in 2013 the band started to play live.

The band joined the Wacken Metal Battle and they made it to the finals of the event and shared stage with excellent Costa Rican bands like Grecco, Zyanide, Howler, Fractal Reality, Heresy, Glorious Days Will Come and Rotten Souls who were the winners of the contest. It was decided that it was a good time to start working in studio material, the band decided that an EP was a good way to show people the sound of the band; five songs were selected for this purpose: "Walk In The Fire", "Who Said That Murder Is Not An Art", "Filling The Endless Void", "The Red Sun Is Arriving" and "Relapse". The audio engineer in charge of this production was Marcos Monnerat, that besides being a talented singer and guitar player in his band, The Movement In Codes is also an excellent and experienced engineer that has recorded most of the bands in Costa Rica in the last 15 years. During the recording of this production Jose Daniel left the band for multiple reasons, Roberto Chaves was added to the lineup to play the bass guitar.
Later that year the band had the opportunity to perform out of Costa Rica's southern borderline in Panama City with their colleagues in Reborn In Chaos (Death Metal), after they returned to Costa Rica they continued their studio work and it was decided that it was better to record a full-length album instead of only five songs.

Then the band started to write seven more song, drums were recorded fully in the last quarter of 2013, and guitar tracking was almost ready, but the project was delayed due to multiple reasons and it was not until the last quarter of 2014 that the band continued recording the song s. In 2015 the band filmed their first music video for the song "Perspectives", but this video was not released until December 25th, 2016. In 2015 the band continued performing live.
In late March 2016, Eduardo and Andrés were involved in a traffic accident, both were hospitalized and sadly Eduardo passed away on April 6th, 2016. The band stopped every project until mid-2017.

Then the band continued recording the album, some guitars were re-recorded then bass, keys and vocals. The mixing and mastering process were ready in early 2018. In the third quarter of 2017 Daniel Fallas became the new drummer, the band continued to rehearse and prepare the release of 'Relapse'. In the first quarter of 2018 Roberto left the band and was replaced by Leonardo Hidalgo. The lineup of the band was complete again and the album was finished, the band was ready to release the album and begin to perform live once again.
In September 2018 the band performed live again after three years of inactivity, this was a good show full of friends and family in San Ramon, Alajuela. The band was ready to release the album, the album artwork was made by Pavel Kurbanov in Russia and the album was released on October 7th, 2018 on multiple digital platforms.
