Biography

Elysium was founded in spring, 1996. During the first six months Elysium struggled to shape the line-up. After a few months of seeking, it was possible to find musicians to record songs to appear on our first demo record.

April 1997 was when Elysium recorded songs for our first album at NEW PROJECT studio in Podkowa Lesna. The album was called SUNSET (7 songs, 33 minutes). Everything was recorded within six days. It was engineered by Krzysztof Maszota.

As there is no interest from any of the labels, band is forced to release the album on its own in September 1997 (total number of copies: 750). The material is spread all over Europe to 10 countries (e.g. Norway, Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Russia, Germany and Finland) and gains appraisal in underground zines. Thank to this album, Elysium was becoming considered a great hope of Polish metal scene. On autumn 1997, Kuba Jasic (guit) joins the band. Elysium started rehearsals for second album.

Marcin Maryniak leaves the band in January 1998. After a few months, a new bassist is found, Roman Felczynski. Just before the recording session (Fall, 1998), Tomasz Kochaniec leaves the band.

Elysium enters MANEK Studio in Sanok to record second album DREAMLANDS. The whole session lasted three weeks. It was mastered my Arek 'Malta' Malczewski. The whole material totaled about 50 minutes. (None of the songs from SUNSET was recorded again). Piotr Dorotniak from MOONSHADOWS band recorded keyboards for the session.

After the release of the album, Elysium gave successful concerts with Christ Agony, Lux Occulta, Behemoth, Trauma and Neolith.

DREAMLANDS was released courtesy of Morbid Noizz Productions in February 2000. The album got good reviews in metal zines and official press like Thrash'em All (graded 10/12). It also placed four in yearly readers poll.

In 2000, the album appeared in whole Europe due to Black Mark Productions (the label releasing bands like Bathory, Necrophobic i Edge Of Sanity). In spite of slender promotion, the press and fans liked the album very much. Even the prestigious Rock Hard graded DREAMLANDS 7/10.

Then the came the changes of line-up. Spring 2000 is when Mariusz Bogacz decides to leave the band. Maciej Oryl joins the band on drums. Bartek Nowak (former Vassago and Numen guitarist) replaces Kuba Jasic on guitar. With new people on board, Elysium starts touring to promote the debut. The band plays several concerts with Behemoth, Asgaard and Driller Killer (Swe).

In august 2000, ELYSIUM participates second Thrash'em All Festival in Olsztyn, where plays gigs along with Vader, Behemoth and Yattering. This concert meets with great sympathy from the audience.

In May 2001 Elysium celebrated its fifth anniversary at Forty club in Wroclaw where bands like Behemoth, Eternal Deformity, Lost Soul and Witchmaster gave guest appearances.

As Morbid Noizz fails to provide funds for new album session, Elysium decides to sign a 3-album contract with Metal Mind Productions. Just before the recording of new album Rafal Borowiec (keyb) joins the band and leaves soon after.

Within one month after signing the contract, Elysium enters the Manek Studio to record the second LP called ECLIPSE. Once again, Arek Malczewski is in chorge of the sound on this album. The session, with short breaks, lasted until the half of September. The album was mixed at Hendrix Studio, Lublin (the studio where Behemoth used to record), and then mastered by Bartek Kuzniak at 333 Studio.

In December 2001 the album was available in music stores. The reactions of fans and professional press was, again, very positive. The band performed with Misteria, Devilyn and Trauma to promote the LP.

In June, 2002 Elysium hits the road on its first tour with Vader, Hate and Azarath. The tour included gigs in 8 greatest Polish cities. The audience totaled 3500 maniacs.

Just before the tour, Bartek Nowak (guit) left the band. Instead, Michal Wlosik joined the band. Fall and winter of 2002 is when the band works rehearsing for the third album.

In February 2003 Elysium enters the Tower Studio in hometown Wroclaw to record FEEDBACK. The session in once again engineered by Arek Malczewski.

ELYSIUM 2003 (FEEDBACK line-up): Maciej Miskiewicz - vocals * Michal Maryniak - guitar * Michal Wlosik - guitar * Roman Felczynski - bass * Maciej Oryl - drums

Songs from FEEDBACK were first performed live on Metalmania 2003 at Spodek, Katowice. We performed there as headliner for the "small scene" concerts. Soon after, various circumstances conspired and Michal Maryniak, Maciej Oryl and Roman Felczynski had to leave the band. Autumn 2003 - we decided to find completely fresh line-up. After a few months Pawel Ulatowski (drums) and Pawel Micha³owski (bass) join the band. We start full throttle to get prepared for the recording of the new album.

ELYSIUM 2004: Maciej Miskiewicz - vocals * Michal Wlosik - guitar * Tomasz Wawryk - guitar * Pawel Michalowski - bass * Pawel Ulatowski - drums

In April, 2004 we entered the Hendrix Studio in Lublin to record our fourth album: DEADLINE. Elysium performed live with bands like Enter Chaos, Esqarial, Eternal Deformity and Horrorscope to promote the new recording. Tomasz Wawryk joins the band on guitar in May.

Tomasz was, however unable to fit our band and thus we were forced to split our ways. The beginning of 2005 was when we were, again, forced to play as a quartet.
Another important date in the history of Elysium is February 2005, when we all decide to sign the contract with Empire Records since our former label, MMP, gave no sign of willing to prolong our contract.

At the beginning of 2005 we started writing songs for our new album, to have it recorded in July at HENDRIX studio in Lublin. The tracks were recorded under the keen eye (ear?) of Arek Malczewski. The album was mixed in our hometown. Once again - the choice was the Tower Studio (where we had recorded FEEDBACK). Our former bassist Roman Felczynski was the one to do the job. GODFATHER was then mastered at HERTZ studio by Wieslawski bros.

The album was finally released in december 2005 with Thrash'em All magazine.
In 2005, we are again dogged by misfortune. Pawel Michalowski leaves the band and is replaced by Michal Buczak (who also plays bass in Enter Chaos).

ELYSIUM 2006 - line-up: Maciej Miskiewicz - vocal * Michal Wlosik - guitar * Pawel Ulatowski - drums * Michal Buczak - bass

In September 2007 the band starts working on songs for 4-song Ep coming out somewhere near the end of the year. The album will be released under the wings of experimental young label - with primarily virtual distribution. Stay tuned for more details!

From 2008 on, Pawel Kulawik, is Elysium's new drummer.
