Biography

Mechanical Poet was born on Spring, 2002 from the ashes of experimental avant-garde metal act Glazemaker, which consisted of guitarist Lex, drummer Tom and lead singer Sebastian. After several years of experimenting and performing very various genres of music the members decided to form an original melodic metal project. In this new band they wanted to unite progressive metal riffs and song structures with deep ambient pads, trance electronics and rich classical orchestrations.

First record of Mechanical Poet was made on June, 2002. It was an instrumental 9-track demo ''Trace Of The Dead Leaf'' composed of old Glazemaker pieces that were revised and newly orchestrated. The demo was well appreciated on Moscow underground scene and the trio started to work on their premier EP. From June to August, 2002 Lex and Tom have already composed six new tracks and on September, 2002 occupied the studio to record them. Unfortunately in the middle of the studio session the singer decided to leave the band and the work was incomplete.

Seven months were spent in auditions and endless search of a good singer. The choice was made at the end of April, 2003 after more than 130 auditions. Max became the frontman of Mechanical Poet and put the final touches at ''Handmade Essence'' EP. Due to these 4 songs and 2 instrumental tracks the band received several offers from various music companies and finally signed a record deal with italian label Aural Music, the mother company for code666, Dreamcell11, GoreGorecords and Amaranth Recordings.

From the beginning of 2004 Mechanical Poet have been working on their debut full length CD ''Woodland Prattlers''. The hard work was complete on September, 2004. The official release date was set on December 4th, 2004.

In 2009 after releasing 3 more records, the band played a few shows and went on a hiatus.

In 2017 Lex Plotnikoff announced a new album "The Midnight Carol That an Imp Has Sought" which will feature many guest singers, including the ex-member, Jerry Lenin. The release is scheduled for 2018.
