Biography

The symphonic gothic power metalband Magion hailing from the Dutch The Hague/Rotterdam-area was founded in September 2005.
Magion create powerful, stirring, dark, but always accessible music that matches perfectly with Myrthe's moving, partly autobiographical lyrics. The elaborately structured songs contain a lot of variation. Fast and tightly executed metal-elements combined with a symphonic approach result in exciting, bombastic episodes that seamlessly pass into atmospheric, sensitive passages. Intriguing guitar solos enrich the overall sound, but leave plenty of room for the mesmerizing vocals that shift effortlessly from a poppy sound to a more classical approach. The vocals are supplemented on some tracks with clean or raw male vocals.
All band members are experienced and very critical about their music. This shows through the high-level compositions and lyrics, the intense execution and the production of the music, as well as through the graceful artwork. Magion are a force to be reckoned with on stage as well: the soundscapes are delivered to the audience with confidence enthusiasm and precision. By now the band has shared the stage with Epica, Delain, Trail of Tears, Autumn, Kingfisher Sky, Cirrha Niva and many others. There's no doubt more great bands will follow!
The debut-album "Close to Eternity" was recorded in 2008 in Excess Studios Rotterdam (After Forever, Gorefest, Ayreon, Epica) and mastered in Sweden by musical mastermind Dan Swanö (Opeth, Pain, Theatre of Tragedy, Millencollin, Katatonia, Novembre, Bloodbath). The spectacular artwork was done by the Brazilian graphical artist Jobert Mello.
A 3-track promo-CD was presented in 2009 as a forebode to the full-length album and received a lot of raving press:
Aardschok: "Magion clearly distincts itself by its quality. And in Myrthe van Beest the band have a singer with a beautiful, powerful, pure, classical voice; very convincing."
Mindview: "Fast, at times progressive parts are followed by sensitive parts that, despite their length, are interesting until the very end."
Professional Jury GPZH '10: "Richly orchestrated female fronted gothic metal on a high level with beautiful and pure vocals.
Well-produced; done exactly by the book."
Femme Metal Webzine: "Here is a band that delivers the entire package -- stellar vocals from the very talented front woman Myrthe van Beest that shift effortlessly from mid-range to operatic, with superb composition and plenty of top-notch musicianship."
The year 2010 has started very promising and more exciting, positive developments are yet to come.
Magion have supported the mighty Epica at a sold-out "De Kade", Zaandam, Magion have competed in the grand final of the prestigious regional band-competition "Grote Prijs van Zuid-Holland" in "WATT", Rotterdam and the band will be included in the 3rd compilation-CD from Femme Metal Records together with a fine selection of bands including Epica, ReVamp and many others.
The greatest development so far is the in-house release of the debut-album "Close to Eternity" in February 2010 due to persisting demand from the fans. Magion have confidently taken the initiative and prove with this album that a star is rising in the female fronted metal firmament!
