1. chapter: The band Hecate started to play in April 1996. The founders of the band were Milan Sulek - guitarist, Juraj Sulek - drums, Milan Tary - guitarist, Palo Lassák - bass guitar. After a short period of time, Tomá "Noga" Smida - vocals and Milos Fabry - keyboards joined the band. The musical orientation indicated the composition of doom/black metal style. The original name of the band was Imperial Storm, however, later the members of the bank decided for the name the Hecate (A Greek goddess). The band started to create and compose individual songs together and all the members of the band contributed. The band performed in the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic, mostly in underground events and fests. In summer 1997, the band took part in the festival Slia Rock Summer" and the band won first prize. Thus Hecate was provided the first opportunity to record its first demo that was named "Tales...". Twenty three minutes of music comprised of 5 pieces in the dark and melodic doom/black metal style. The demo version was "baptized" in Krupina, Teplicka, at the "Cirkev Party" in the year 1998. Mato Droppa (The Black Orchid) became a godfather. The demo was released in a limited number and at the expense of the band, however its distribution is insufficient. The demo was supported by several concerts in Slovakia.

2. chapter: The fact that both guitarists were conscripted to the army restricted the band activities for one year. Then the band started to play together again. However meantime, Palo - bass guitar and Juraj - drums joined a death metal band, Sarcastic, but this band also succeeded to record just one demo in the year 1997. During the years 1997 and 1998 , the band underwent several changes. Juraj Sulek - drums, had to leave the band due to personal reasons. His place was temporarily replaced by Peter Gablik from the band Abstract and later Marek Pecnik who has been playing drums since that time. During some short period of time, the band had seven members, because Martin Savel another keyboards player joined the band as well. At that time, two other pieces of music were composed in "old" style.

The personnel changes had a significant influence upon the band's musical direction. It is manifested in the structure of new compositions. In spring 2003, Hecate recorded its second demo titled "Oppressed by Sorrow". In comparison with the first one, this differs in the both, acoustical and musical sides. It is apparent that the band transferred from the original metal line and other musical influences.
