Biography
1997
Among the Mortals formed as a two-man band in late Spring/early Summer. With plenty of material ready, work on a demo begins right away. 'A Duet of Tragedy' released on 5th December.
1998
New members: A. Martikainen on guitar, E. Kitunen on keyboards and some guy V. knew on bass. First live performance in April (a local band contest). E. and the bass player leave shortly afterwards; A. stays in the band. Writing new material.
1999
Unable to find a proper rehearsal space, and everyone busy with other things. Preliminary recordings of a few new songs are made, but nothing is released.
2000
M. Suorsa joins the band on bass. Rehearsing properly, writing new material. Second ever live performance in September (another local band contest). Once again, some preliminary recordings, but nothing released.
2001
M. leaves the band. Later A. moves out of town and also quits. The two founding members are left back where they started, resulting in a general lack of motivation.
2002
Among the Mortals set on indefinite hold in March.
2002-2005
T. continues to write new music on his own. There are talks about getting the band back on its feet "soon".
2005
Reactivated as a two-man band in September, with plans to record and release a full-length album.
2006
Work on 'Of Ignorance and Dismissal' begins. First recordings in July/August, everything done by the end of the year.
2007
It becomes clear that parts of the album have to be re-recorded. Problems in finding time for this, as both members are extremely busy with other things. Work on the album continues slowly.
2008
Re-recording sporadically, now the entire album and every instrument. Recordings finished by the end of the year. Meanwhile, T. is once again writing new material.
2009
Mixing the album prooves to be both difficult and time-consuming. 'oiad' released on 8th April, intended as a rough production preview of the album - simply in order to have something out.
2010
The album is done and ready to be released, but gets postponed as plans for a re-release of 'A Duet of Tragedy' emerge. Unfortunately, these plans ultimately lead to nothing.
2011
After five years in the works, 'Of Ignorance and Dismissal' is finally released on 19th February. There are talks about getting a live line-up together once more. Recordings for a second album are set to begin this Summer.
