Biography

Korpius was formed in 2003 by Philippe d'Astous and Maxime Berriaut in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The search for a singer being unfruitful, both guitarists decided early on to handle the vocal dutie themselves. The mix of their guttural and high pitched vocals was soon to be one of the distinctive landmarks of the band.

After independently releasing its first demo in 2006, Korpius signed with Cryogenic Records for the release of its "Apocalyptic Vision" Ep. This signing allowed the band to play a wide range of show in the province, from metal fests in Rouyn-Noranda, Lebel-sur-Quévillon, St-Georges-de-Beauce to local shows in Quebec, Montreal, St-Hyacinte and their hometown; Sherbrooke. The band proved more than once that their right place is on the stage, next to metal acts such as Cryptopsy, Belphegor, Neuraxis, Krisiun, Despised Icon and many more.

Afterwards, Paul Côté and Félix Lampron joined in respectively playing drums and bass. These additions were the missing pieces needed in order to complete it's first full-lenght Release '' Shades of Black ''. Released on Maple Metal Records it features the band's best material to date. Proving their maturity with both the brutal yet progressive influences, Korpius shows on the new album that death metal can be musical while staying brutal and having that punch in your face. The wide range of songs on the album makes it a must for all extreme metal fans.

After more than 9 years in the band, founding member Philippe d'Astous stepped down to pursue other interests. Louis Jacques (Kemilon, Blackguard) replaced Philippe on a few gigs before long-time friend of the band Alexandre Maillé (Aeva) took over the guitar duties. The new line-up played successful gigs in Quebec before deciding to call it a quit.

Korpius has been part of the metal scene in Quebec for over 10 years and released three CDs and one music video. Catch former members in their new musical projects, including Aeva, Liva, and more.
