Biography

Blastanus is a Finnish brutal/technical death metal band that was formed in 2007 when two long time friends Antti Oksanen and Henri Fredriksson decided to take their love for extreme metal music and form their own band. Soon after the formation of the band, another long time friend Kari Väkiparta became the group's vocalist.

The band rehearsed songs as a three piece before they found bass player Mikko Hellström who joined the band in early 2008. In 2010 the band came in contact with saxophone player Jussi Huurre who proved to be a very fitting add for the band by mixing in different influences and spicing up their live performance.

The bands first record, Odd, was released independently in 2009. The record was mainly in the vein of fast grindcore, combined with elements of brutal death metal and savage black metal. Odd received great reviews from various magazines and internet sites. Most of the reviews pointed out that the band had tremendous potential for great things in the future.

The band mainly promoted the release by themselves - selling the CDs at their shows and various other gigs/events and trough record retailers. This helped to get gigs with other Finnish bands and further expose people to the bands explosive and unpredictable live performances. The main musical influences that form the bands sound are Cephalic Carnage, Origin, Hate Eternal, Nile and The Faceless.

After 2009, the band started focusing in writing new music and creating something different from the more grindcore oriented material found on Odd. For 2011, the band brings forth their newest release, Collapse.

Collapse was recorded at NoiseCamp studios in Turku and at Raja-Audio Studios in Salo, Finland. The new record is more technical & brutal death metal oriented than the previous one. More emphasis was put on songwriting and the overall message and lyrics of the album. Themes feature social commentary about the current state of world affairs and the imminent collapse of our whole societal structure. The anger for the current establishment and growing police state can clearly be heard trough the bands delivery on this record.

For now the band is releasing a batch of the record independently. Ideally the band is looking for possible support for the current and future releases from record labels and booking agencies. The goal is to play shows in support of the record and further make a statement in the Finnish death metal scene. Never short on material, the band is hoping to start recording for a new EP later this year and writing for the next full length has already begun.
