Biography

DESDEMONA is considered one of most popular dark alternative acts in Poland. The band has recorded 3 albums released by the greatest label in Middle Europe.
DESDEMONA was founded in 1996 by the group of close friends whose dream was to make ambitious music. After signing the contract with MORBID NOIZZ label, the band released their first album entitled ?STAGNACJA" in 2000. Due to help of Black Wings Records, ?STAGNACJA" was also released in Japan (in 2000). At that time JOANNA RADŁOWSKA (a vocalist) decided to abandon the group. The audience could see her performing with DESDEMONA during CASTLE PARTY FESTIVAL in 2000. The next vocalist became AGATA PAWŁOWICZ. Her charismatic stage personality was admired by the fans of dark music during CASTLE PARTY FESTIVAL in 2001.

The next stage in the history of DESDEMONA was connected with signing the contract with METAL MIND PRODUCTIONS. It resulted in releasing the second album of the band "s.u.p.e.r.N.O.V.A." in 2003. It received a lot of positive reviews from music critics and fans. The song ?XI IX" reached the top in a TV music programme called VIVA ROCK. The band went on a tour called DARK STARS FESTIVAL where the biggest Polish alternative acts performed. DESDEMONA played along with MOONLIGHT, DELIGHT, ARTROSIS and FADING COLOURS.

In 2003 Robert Pląskowski (a keyboardist) joined the band. At that time DESDEMONA supported TYPE O NEGATIVE during their concert in Poland.
In 2004 the group released their third album entitled VERSION 3.0. The record was full of industrial and electronic sounds which was a new experiment for the band. More industrial style of DESDEMONA was approved by the critics in Poland and abroad as well as by the fans. The group went on the promotional tour as a part of the second edition of DARK STARS FESTIVAL. Besides, the band played along with TIAMAT and PAIN during their Polish tour. As a result, the first DVD of DESDEMONA entitled ?Live 3.0"was released in 2005.

In 2005 Mariusz Frąszczak abandoned the band and Szymon Świerczyński became a new member of the group.
In 2006 DESDEMONA took part in the Polish tribute album paid to DEPECHE MODE .

In 2007 DESDEMONA was one of the headliners at KUNIGUNDA LUNARIA FESTIVAL held in Vilnius. The same year the band once again supported TYPE O NEGATIVE and also performed at CASTLE PARTY FESTIVAL.

In 2008 DESDEMONA started working on their fourth album. However, in October the band announced their split up with the lead singer Agata Pawłowicz. According to the press release:

We have recorded two albums with Agata as well as one live DVD released by METAL MIND PRODUCTIONS.

Till the third album VERSION 3.0" we had been labeled as the gothic band. While working on VERSION 3.0 we showed which music direction we wanted to take. It was different from gothic.

It seemed that Agata were not fond of those changes. According to her, our view on making music was not the same. Her expectations were different. This disagreement created strains. It resulted in our constant frustration. Therefore, we have decided to finish our collaboration with Agata. We had been considering this decision for almost one year before we made it.

The new voice of DESDEMONA became AGNIESZKA LEŚNA from Poznań. She joined the band in 2008.

Since then the band has been still working on their new album as well as giving concerts. One of them was a concert given in December 2009 in Warsaw where DESDEMONA was an opening act before a very popular on synth pop scene VNV NATION.
