Biography

VLE... a solo project based in New York City, USA which started in July 2001. Inspired by ocean sunsets, darkness and silence... VLE has created improvised expressive minimalist soundscapes that serve to evoke different emotions. VLE is a journey through timeless motifs and cosmic spheres of existence. The sound of VLE is raw and emotional as all pieces were constructed without use of programming or traditional composition style. The music of VLE is very eclectic as each piece represents the different moods we all experience in this life. This is music from the soul... music erected from the subconscious. And if you are open to other states of consciousness, you too shall learn. VLE invites you to experience the deepest realms of darkness and beauty.

Works created through strict use of experimentation and improvisational techniques... the most important element is the depiction of atmosphere where all instruments/sounds fuse together. Noise, chaos, infinity, beauty, darkness, light, pain, harmony, melancholy, rhythm, power, melody, repetition, dissonance and duality are all concepts expressed herein... ~ the VLE ~

What you will hear is a display of raw eclectic soundscapes expressed through usage of experimental technique. I do not pretend that the production is of high quality. Most of the music began by using an old 4-track. Those first basic tracks were then imported into a computer where other sounds (percussion/synth) were then added and made into audio files, which I eventually uploaded onto MP3.com. All the music was improvised and constructed for my own need for self-expression. It is music that I created several years ago that I stored on cassette tapes. Out of boredom, curiosity and encouragement from someone dear to me, I uploaded one song to MP3.com. After receiving some positive feedback and requests for more sounds, VLE was realized. Personally, I am more interested in hearing the impressions the music gives the listener... most of the people who have commented on my works, tell me these collection of sounds have a mood that they enjoy. For me, this is the most meaningful aspect above all, as I didn't plan this music. What you hear is something that came from within me as naturally as I breathe.

First I must make perfectly clear I am not a keyboard player, programmer, drummer or singer. What you hear is my own natural instincts towards these instruments. I am a self-taught guitarist, but as I have said before, everything was improvised. No programming, no re-doing. In most cases the guitars or main keyboard melodies were recorded first without any click track and then the drum sounds, bass and vocals added later. I played the drum sounds from a keyboard all in real-time (for instance... kick first or sometimes hi-hat and snare first, etc). This is why you hear a very loose feel to the songs. In the case of Kano, I recorded a layered improvised keyboard piece... then I had a drummer (Michael Molina) go into a studio and play over the music with a real acoustic drum set. He only heard the piece once before and there were no rehearsals. He also recorded the drum tracks without the use of a click. These works are all an experimental improvisation... I hope you find something within.

I will never re-record any of this music; because I feel all creations are as they should be... the mood, atmosphere and emotions are all captured and represented... just as it is with nature. So, just listen to the sounds... preferably with headphones in the dark with candles burning... then close your eyes...
