Biography

Montreal quintet DISSENTION was originally formed by guitarist Matteo Conti and Anthony Pulcini in the middle of 2007 under the name of Set To Kill. Soon after, Nathan Afilalo and Oli Aveline were added to handle guitar and bass duties. Within the year the current line-up was complete when Keyboardist Andrew Proppe joined the band.

The band recorded their first demo Dawn of Despair in the summer of 2008. In February 2009 they participated in Landmark Productions' Battle of the Bands at Club Soda in Montreal and finished in the top three spots. They obviously caught the attention of the judges with their incendiary performance.

Later in 2009, while sharing their time between writing and perfecting their sound and tending to their high school educational duties. The band entered the Quebec wide "Can Your School Rock" competition and made it to the finals against all odds, as most of the acts that took part of the competition where mainly mainstream pop. Once again their sound and stage performance captured the attention of the judges who could not deny the bands talent and originality.

Their passage on CYSR also led to interviews on Global and VRAK TV. Followed, opening slots for international metal bands such as, [band]Tyr[/b] (Napalm Records) and Threat Signal (Nuclear Blast Records) as the band continued to define their indefinable style in their own words, is a clash between Thrash Metal, Black Metal and Power Metal. "We don't really classify ourselves as anything but to us that's what it sounds like."

The band recently began the recording of their first studio album with Producer Kevin Jardine (Uplift Productions, Slaves On Dope, The Monarchy). This is when Nathan officially became the front man of the band and that Set To Kill became DISSENTION. The first three tracks from the sessions, "Black Steel", "Brutality" and "Set To Kill" can be heard on the bands MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/dissensionmtl). The band will finish recording the rest of their upcoming release this year and will hit the road in support of the album in 2013.

In Summer of 2013 longtime bassist Oli Aveline left the band and was replaced by Giancarlo Cininni. On September 10, 2013, the band's debut album, Of Time And Chronic Disease, was released via Believe Digital.
