Mastodon - Trivia

The song Colony of Birchmen is featured in the soundtrack of the videogame Saints Row 2. It can be heard on the radiostation "Krunch 106.66".
Scott Kelly (Neurosis, Shrinebuilder) has done guest vocals on one song per studio album that Mastodon has released except Remission.
The Hunter was recorded at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with producer Mike Elizondo. Drum tracks were previously completed in Los Angeles at the legendary Sound City Studios (the place where Nirvana's Nevermind was recorded).
The opening song from the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie was sung by Mastodon.
The song Blood And Thunder appears on the soundtrack for many video games, including "Need for Speed: Most Wanted", "Saints Row", "Project Gotham Racing 3", "Splatterhouse", and "Guitar Hero: Metallica".
Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher met the other members at a High On Fire show.
On the Mastodon album "Blood Mountain" there is a hidden track after the last song "Pendulous Skin", starting on 21'25". It's a faked message of Joshua Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age, who participated on the recording of the song "Colony Of Birchmen". Homme put the demos on the Internet, without asking permission of the band. Therefore Mastodon are mocking him now in a quite subtle way.
The band members are fans of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and in 2007, Mastodon performed the opening song of Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters, "Cut You Up with A Linoleum Knife". In the movie, the band members are animated as a pretzel (bass guitarist), an icecaps candy box (lead guitarist), a container of nachos (drummer), and a green DOTS gumdrop candy singing vocals. The song is meant to be a humour piece in which they threaten violence against anyone who disobeys movie theatre etiquette.
Bill Kelliher, guitarist of the band, used to work in a Mexican restaurant called "El Myr" in Atlanta. After joining the band, he kept visiting the place as a customer with the other members of the band, to have lunch during the breaks of their rehearsals, since their place is next to the restaurant.
Mastodon's album Leviathan is loosely based on the Herman Melville novel Moby-Dick.
