The song "Communicating Via-Eyes" is "about a guy who becomes a werewolf".
The eight-minute "The Gem" was inspired by the concept of the human race being a plague upon the earth, and the apocalypse being a good thing because it wipes out humanity. Whoever sets it in motion (Heppner explained as by "open[ing] Pandora's box") is hailed as a hero for having done the right thing.
The song "Murphy's Law" was written about the film RoboCop. Heppner has stated that RoboCop is his favorite movie.
Lady Killer" is a "tale of revenge against a serial killer," which started from the band trying to "write a theme song for Jack the Ripper."
Prior To The Fire album's title actually came from a line Heppner stumbled across while watching TV.
"I Am the Night, Colour Me Black" is featured in the video games Need For Speed: Carbon and NHL 2K8.
"Everything That You Are" is featured in the Project Gotham Racing 4 soundtrack, as well as the ATV Offroad Fury 4 soundtrack
"Talk to Her" is featured on the soundtrack to the video game NHL 07.
"No Real Pain" is featured on the soundtrack for the video game Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam.
The song "Lay Down" was featured in the popular video game, Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero: Smash Hits.
