06:35 - Apothecary We'll just have to agree to disagree then, as much as I love both bands, I still consider Zeppelin and Deep Purple hard rock at the very most
06:34 - flightoficarus Big sale at Willowtip. Best band there besides Ulcerate and Gigan?
06:33 - Apothecary Doom/stoner/sludge has its roots in Sabbath, and power and speed/thrash in Priest. I'd say everything else was just bands taking those categories and then building upon them to create new ones
06:30 - deadone That doesn't preclude Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin being pioneers in heavy metal and as such considered part of the genre, even though they happily sit outside it sometimes.
06:28 - Apothecary You're probably right for NWOBHM, but I would say that was because they were mostly influenced by Priest, not Sabbath. I think those bands very much started two divergent roads in metal, but both were the unofficial "pioneers"
05:24 - deadone That's historical revisionism. Bare in mind most NWOBHM metal bands didn't do " dark, heavy." Most speed/thrash wasn't that heavy either. Indeed Sabbathian heaviness was kept alive by doom metal.

German power metallers Brainstorm are working on a new album, called On The Spur Of The Moment.
Brainstorm vocalist Andy B. Franck issued the following update: "Finally and long awaited, we are in the studio to record our new studio album. We decided to work together with Axel Heckert at the "Studio 22" in Ludwigsburg, near Stuttgart. He is a big fan of the band and we will definitely reach a new level with that album. The new material is even more homogeneous and aggressive than the latest songs we wrote.
Memorial Roots was super, On The Spur Of The Moment will be awesome!"
Brainstorm guitarist Torsten Ihlenfeld has announced the band is busy writing new material for the next album, the successor for Memorial Roots released in October last year. In a message on the band's MySpace he writes:
"Long time no hear. That either means we have been very busy writing songs for the next album or we have been enjoying some free time. Well, we have been and still are busy writing songs for the next album and are now preparing for some summer holidays. Let me tell you, the new songs sound incredible. Last week's rehearsals left us sitting afterwards with some beers and some good shots of Four Roses and a bright smile on our faces. There's some real heavy stuff coming your way."
AFM Records are proud to announce that Brainstorm signed a new contract with AFM Records. Both sides are very happy with the new signing and everybody is looking forward to a new album release.

After some very intense rehearsals over the last weeks and months we feel that Toni is the right man for the job and we will babtize and seal this new alliance on our upcoming tour.
