The Man-Eating Tree, the new atmospheric metal band featuring ex-Sentenced drummer Vesa Ranta alongside current/former members of Poisonblack, Reflexion and Embraze, have entered Mastervox Studio in Oulu, Finland to begin recording its debut album with producer Hiili Hiilesmaa (Him, Sentenced, Amorphis).
According to the group's official bio, The Man-Eating Tree was formed when "Vesa Ranta, having taken a break from music after Sentenced, began to overcome his post-Sentenced battle fatigue and lack of musical motivation. The idea of a new band - or bands - was eventually brainstormed over a period of time between Vesa and his friends, including gentlemen Miika Tenkula, Aaron Rantonen, Janne Markus (guitar, Poisonblack) and Mikko Uusimaa. Plans were made reality in 2009; the outfit was completed by the addition of Tuomas Tuominen (Fall Of The Leafe) as a vocalist and Heidi Määttä (Embraze) as a keyboard player. First demo recordings were made in the spring and summer of 2009.

It will contain all their studio albums and demos but also lots of material which is only available through this box. Finnish newspapers and Blabbermouth.net are reporting that Miika Tenkula, former lead guitarist and main songwriter of the acclaimed Finnish band Sentenced, was found dead at his home earlier yesterday (Thursday, February 19). He was 34 years old. Miika Tenkula was also the band's original vocalist from 1989 to late 1992.
Nalle Österman (Gandalf, Lullacry, Chaosbreed) tells Blabbermouth.net, "It's true, confirmed personally by Sentenced] drummer Vesa Ranta. The fact remains that Miika had a serious drinking problem for many years which escalated after Sentenced was buried. They don't call it King Alcohol for nothing... The metal scene in Finland mourns now for one of the most talented metal guitarists to ever emerge from ."

"Sentenced - Buried Alive", a unique concert film filmed at the last ever Sentenced gig in Oulu's Club Teatria and a part of a DVD release due to hit the shops in this fall will be presented at the Oulu Music Video Festival, Finland, on Saturday 9 September, 2006 at 15 p.m. in the main hall of Youth and Culture Centre NUKU.
Entering the Finnish National Charts at the #1 position, The Funeral Album may prove to be the bands' most successful album, as well as their last. Additionally the album entered the German and Austrian charts at #49 and #56 respectively. The band will be performing several European 'Funeral Shows' prior to the band's dissolution, check their website or the Century Media website for dates.
The video for "Ever-Frost" will begin airing in North America in the upcoming weeks.
We'd better put this out in the open before you hear it somewhere else.
The title of the new album is "The Funeral Album", and with it we, SENTENCED, are coming to the end of our road. This album will be our last one.
The decision is mutual, thoroughly thought over and final.
Metaphorically speaking, this is a mass suicide of 5, and the new album is the kind of note we want to leave behind. One last time around for good-byes.
The decision was made during 2004. The reasons are many, and I don't feel any need to go into details here. I will say however, that everyone will walk away as friends. In my eyes we are even not splitting up, but ending our recording career together. And there is major difference between those two. Our wish was always to go out with style and at the peak of our so called success. I think with "The Funeral Album" we will do exactly that.
After spending about 2 months in different studios the new album is finally finished. Its total running time is 49:53 and the following titles are included:
1. May Today Become the Day
3. We Are But Falling Leaves
4. Her Last 5 Minutes
5. Where Waters Fall Frozen
6. Despair-Ridden Hearts
7. Vengeance Is Mine
8. A Long Way To Nowhere
9. Consider Us Dead
10. Lower The Flags
11. Drain Me
13. End Of The Road.
The album was recorded mainly at Finnvox and Tonebox studios (both in Finland), and mixed & mastered at Finnvox. The man on the producer chair was again Hiili Hiilesmaa, who also produced our 2 previous albums "Crimson" and "The Cold White Light".
Finnish metallers SENTENCED will enter the studio next week with producer Hiili Hiilesmaa (H.I.M., MOONSPELL, THE 69 EYES) to record their as-yet-untitled new album, tentatively due in April 2005 via Century Media Records. 14 songs have been composed for the effort, the recordings for which are expected to be completed by Christmas.
Finland's SENTENCED have announced plans to play a few European festivals during the summer, including Summer Breeze, which is set to take place August 19-12, 2004 in Abtsgmünd, Germany.
"We will throw in some brand-new stuff during our show this summer, because we don't want to play a 'best of SENTENCED' kind of set this time around. That would be too boring," drummer Vesa Ranta said.
The band are currently writing and rehearsing the new material.
"We haven't worked on too many new songs yet as a band, but I know that Miika , Sami and Ville have written lots of new material . We are now rehearsing at a small studio and it's a very good place to build new songs.
