Moonspell have toured extensively in support of their latest album, Extinct. But the touring will continue. In fact, the Portuguese group just announced their final tour for 2016 that will bring them to Spain and France. They will also perform at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting and Graspop Metal Meeting with an Irreligious set for the record's twentieth anniversary. The ladies in Swedish metal band Crucified Barbara just announced that the band is calling it quits. The band was formed in 1998 and released four albums in their career which now comes to an end. They will continue to rock separately in other endeavors.
American prog rock band Magellan has lost its founding father, vocalist and keyboardist Trent Gardner (his brother, also founder, Joel Wayne Gardner died in 2014). He passed away suddenly and this memorial fund was created by his family. R.I.P.
Anagnorisis are a Kentucky-based black metal band and they are about to release their third album. They have announced the title and additional info on their anticipated new LP, which is being completed for a Fall release. The legendary Swedish progressive act Opeth are joining one of the biggest labels in the metal genre, Nuclear Blast Entertainment. We now also know that their successor to Pale Communion will be called Sorceress, and will be released at the end of the year. The group is currently in the studio with Tom Dalgety putting the finishing touches on the record. Good news then!
Earlier, we learnt that Insomnium's next album Winter's Gate will be released in a very special package, featuring a book. We also learnt that the album will consist of an epic 40-minute long track. Swedish prog-infused death metallers Usurpress have announced the release date for their new album, the follow-up to their 2014 second full-length, Ordained, and unveiled its cover art. The album, titled The Regal Tribe, has been confirmed for release on September 23rd via Agonia Records. The band recorded it with producer Lawrence Mackrory (F.K.Ü., Darkane). You can see the cover artwork, created by renowned Dutch artist Marald van Haasteren (Bolt Thrower, High On Fire, Baroness, Kylesa), below along with the tracklist.
Ghost just announced that they will return to North America in September, October and November for their Popestar tour. The Swedish group recently had to cancel their Pinkpop Festival and Download Festival performances after frontman Papa Emeritus III suffered "a severe case of laryngitis." Check out the North American dates below and you can also expect a new Ghost EP this year.
British hard rockers Deep Purple have canceled the two shows they were scheduled to play in Sweden this week (Tuesday, June 14th at Gröna Lund in Stockholm and Wednesday, June 15th at Liseberg in Gothenburg) after one of the band members became ill. No further details have yet been made available by the group neither did they release any statement about it so far.
German black metallers Nocte Obducta just announced their new album! Moreover, a new song has already been made available online for streaming as well. Umbriel (Das Schweigen Zwischen Den Sternen), their last album, came out three years ago and their next offering is called Mogontiacum (Nachdem Die Nacht Herabgesunken...). Filter were scheduled to perform at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg Monday night (June 13th) but they claimed that the group was forced to cancel the concert after receiving death threats. Filter called off the performance just hours before taking the stage, while on tour with Combichrist. However, a representative for the club says that the band called off the show after one of the bandmembers was caught smoking inside the venue.
French industrial black metal icon Blut Aus Nord recorded a split EP with the American extreme metal duo Ævangelist. The album entitled Codex Obscura Nomina will see the light of day on June 17th though Debemur Morti Productions. Two heavyweights are joining forces. Iconic UK metallers, Paradise Lost, have signed a worldwide deal with German-based metal powerhouse Nuclear Blast! For the last few years, Paradise Lost have been part of the Century Media roster and just last year released the album The Plague Within. We'll see what they do next.
As previously reported, doom metal band Clouds have been looking for new a drummer. For the moment, Funeral's Anders Eek will be their live drummer. Today, however, they have started to reveal more about their new album. Firstly, it will be called Departe and the cover artwork was provided by Arthur Kornovics. Check out the cover.
