Dan Nelson - New Material Online Feat. Life Of Agony, Arsis Members

Ever wondered what happened to ex-Anthrax singer Dan Nelson?

For one, he's the new singer of a band called BlackGates, apparently. But more importantly, he recently recorded some material together with Life Of Agony guitarist Joey Z., Arsis guitarist James Malone and Aunt Hildegard drummer Crock LaRock.

Comments Nelson: "This is not a band, but a bunch of songs written with some friends that we recorded in my garage studio."

The songs are called "Burden's Crown", "Troll", "You", "Task At Hand", "New Damnation" and "New Found Noose", and are all available for streaming at this location. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Arsis - Part Ways With Bassist, Former Bassist Returns

Bassist Noah Martin (ex-Dark Empire), who announced his departure from Virginia's melodic/technical death metal band Arsis in September 2008, proudly announces his return to the band's line-up. The band were currently on the "Facemelter Tour" with Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Annotations Of An Autopsy and Conducting From The Grave when bassist Nathaniel Carter abruptly left.

The band has released the following official statement: "So it's true that we have been playing as a three piece for a few gigs. Nat is out and if you want the real story come to a show and ask us, because trust me, that is much more fun and potentially colorful than reading it in an officially sanctioned and sanitized press statement. But this is a problem of very small gravity because WE ARE INEVITABLE and by the time the clock strikes midnight tonight we will be rejoined by our very dear friend and long-missed colleague ... (insert drum roll here) ... the immortal Noah Martin is back in our traveling circle of insanity! We will be turning the hell up to 11 in New Mexico tonight!"

Martin added: "Since leaving Arsis, I've been back in Virginia, finishing up my bachelor's degree. I'm still enrolled in college, so I'm kinda in the same boat as Mike as far as playing live goes. It's tough to stay away from what you love and know so well. For me, making music with James Malone means listening to obscure '80s metal, staying in seedy hotels, peeing in wrecked trailers, playing with Dutchstep, and singing like King Diamond. It feels good to be back in the fold, to make music with my friends. Good times."

Dates for the ongoing Facemelter Tour can be found at this location.

Arsis - New Video Online

"Forced To Rock", the new video from US metallers Arsis, has been made available online. The clip was filmed last month with MyGoodEye (The Red Chord, Goatwhore, The Black Dahlia Murder).

Commented mainman James Malone: "I don't think I have the vocabulary to properly express how excited I am for the video clip "Forced To Rock" to be unleashed upon an expecting metal community. The video was shot in sub-zero temperatures and we were truly suffering the entire time, but I guess all great art comes from suffering. I would like to give Kim Dylla (vocalist of the band This Means You) the biggest thank you ever for her participation in our video and for forcing us to rock. The video shoot was something I will never forget."

"Forced To Rock" comes off the band's forthcoming album, Starve For The Devil, which is due to be released on February 5 in Europe (February 9 in the US) via Nuclear Blast Records.

Arsis - New Album Details Revealed

Original news, posted on 30.07.2009

"Starve For The Devil" will be the name of the fourth studio album from Virginia's melodic/technical death metallers Arsis. New material will be recorded this fall with producer Zeuss (Municipal Waste, Agnostic Front, Hatebreed) at Planet Z Studios in Massachusetts. Artist Mark Riddick will provide his trademarked meticulous and grotesque artwork.

This release will mark the return of founding member/drummer Michael Van Dyne, who states: "The new Arsis record is coming along great - we have eleven new original songs nearly completed, as well as a cover song which will probably be used as a bonus track. Recording this album should be a blast, and the fact that we'll be working with one of the world's top metal producers will only make the experience that much cooler."

Guitarist/singer Jim Malone shares the following: "For the past six months we have been writing songs for "Starve For The Devil", and I must say that I am more than pleased with the way things are going. Mike Van Dyne and I rehearsed this past weekend; it was the first time we have played together in over two and a half years. The rehearsal went amazing; he has really done the songs justice. Look for "Starve For The Devil" to be released early next year and be sure to check us out on the Neckbreakers Ball European Tour in October. We will be supporting Behemoth and Devildriver and it should be, well, good times."

UPDATE (thanks to 13767)

Arsis announced the release date and tracklist of their upcoming album. "Starve For The Devil" is the second album for Nuclear Blast Records and will be released on January 15, 2010. Artwork will be online soon.

Tracklist of the album:

01. Forced to Rock
02. A March for the Sick
03. From Soulless to Shattered (Art in Dying)
04. Beyond Forlorn
05. The Ten of Swords
06. Closer to Cold
07. Sick Perfection
08. Half Past Corpse O'Clock
09. Escape Artist

Arsis - Former Drummer Rejoins

Arsis' original drummer and founding member Michael Van Dyne has rejoined the group.

Commented Van Dyne: "I'm looking forward to working with my friend Jim again, as well as the great people at Nuclear Blast. Judging by the new material that Jim Malone and Nick Cordle have been working on, I think we may be sitting on some of the most memorable and thrashy Arsis material written to date. Due to obligations with my full-time career, session drummers will most likely be utilized for big tours that Jim wishes to do in the future... However, regional shows and occasional mini-tours or festival gigs either here in North America or overseas are a definite possibility (and something I'd be totally psyched to do) if our collective schedules allow it. Good times."

Jim Malone added: "I can't say how excited I am to be working with Mike Van Dyne again; Arsis would have never existed in the first place had it not been for him and his motivation. It's very hard to find people to work with that you can connect with both as musicians and as friends. Mike has always been both of these. I can't wait to start demoing some new material with Mike and Nick. While David Kinkade did a great good job for Arsis and he may still play live with us from time to time, I can't pass up the opportunity to work with Mike Van Dyne again. I have a feeling the vibe will be amazing and feel confident that we'll make Arsis stronger and better than ever. We have the best fans in the world behind us and they deserve the best we have to offer!"

Arsis - Announce New Members

Vocalist/guitarist Jim Malone has posted the following update:

"There is a lot going on in the land of ARSIS these days. For starters, we will be heading overseas in a few weeks for our first European tour ever where we have the pleasure of sharing the stage with Morbid Angel, Kataklysm, Marduk, and Keep Of Kalessin. We are all so excited for this! Since the departure of Noah Martin from the band, we have been performing with a new bassist named Nick Cordle. I can not say enough good things about Nick; he is truly an amazing musician. Aside from being a great bassist, he fucking rips on guitar. He is without a doubt one of the best musicians I have ever had a chance to play with. We would also like to thank Shawn Priest for playing drums with us for the past four months and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. Starting with the European tour, we will be working with drummer David Kinkade, formerly of Malevolent Creation and Divine Empire. David also plays drums in Borknagar and I feel that we'll be working with him for a long time. He is one the most 'real' people that I have ever met. Look for Arsis on a headlining tour of The States in the late winter. Hope to see you at a show!"

Drummer David Kinkade comments on his joining the band: "I am very excited to join the ranks of Arsis. James, Ryan and I have many of the same influences and goals in what we want out of a band and in our overall drive for music. The tunes are fun to play and I can't wait to see what the future brings with these phenomenal musicians. The set list is sounding sick at rehearsal and I trust that the upcoming tour, being Arsis' European debut, will CRUSH Europe. As posted last week, I have also joined Borknagar as the new full-time drummer. Neither of the obligations in both bands will interfere with each other. Just expect a lot of activity on my end in these next few months. See you all on tour."

Bassist Nick Cordle adds: "It's a huge honor and thrill to join Arsis! The shows so far have been a pretty damn good time and it's a great privilege to play & hang with James, Ryan, and David. Arsis have been a favorite band of mine for many years now and to be able to play a role in its future is quite excellent. I'm drawing a huge amount of energy from the atmosphere in the band both musically and personally -- we are deadly focused and out for blood! The European tour is going to be truly wicked!"

Arsis - Bassist Quits

Noah Martin has issued the following statement in regards to stepping down from his bass-playing duties in Arsis:

"Well, I don't know where to start. When you're in a band, you're nothing but at the will of the group you're in. At some point, after lots of nights laying awake in a bunk after a show in the middle of the country, you really start to wonder where your life is headed. I know there's a big difference between what's smart and what you really want to do. I really need to do the smart thing and finish college, though I'd also like to do what I love, and continue playing with Arsis. Unfortunately, I can't do them both. Thus, I've decided to leave the band.

I've had such a phenomenal time with Jim , Ryan , and Shawn , as we'll always be friends. I'll miss working with Gerardo, Loana, and bugging Mike at Nuclear Blast, who've made working with them the most enjoyable experience. Thanks to anyone and everyone we've ever worked with, including the bands with which we've toured.

I would like to personally thank all ours friends and fans, since you've always been one in the same in my eyes. Leaving something you love is the most difficult thing to do, though leaving it doesn't mean you'll never come back to it. I most likely will - after I finish school. If I wind up pursuing something else in the meantime, I'll probably do so, but that's another story.

My last two shows with Arsis will be September 26th in Indianapolis, Indiana and September 27th in Covington, Kentucky."

Arsis - Replace Drummer

US metallers Arsis have issued the following update:

"Although we had a great run over the past year and a half with drummer Darren Cesca , we have decided to stop working with him in Arsis. The reasoning behind this decision is simply differences in personalities and an overall difference in direction. Darren is an amazing musician and we harbor no ill feelings towards him. We wish him all the best. We are most excited to announce that Alex Tomlin, a long time friend of ours and an outstanding drummer, will be replacing Darren. His first shows with us will be on the "In Thrash We Trust" tour starting this Wednesday. Come out and support Arsis and the new addition to our line-up!"

Arsis - New Video Online

The first version of "We Are The Nightmare," the new video from the Virginia-based technical death metal outfit Arsis, can be viewed here.

A second (animated) version of the video is currently in the works and will see the light of day in the next few weeks.

The song is the title track of the group's latest album, which was released on April 15 (North America) through Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was produced by Zeuss (Agnostic Front, Hatebreed, Municipal Waste) at Planet Z Studios in Massachusetts and was mastered by Alan Douches (Kataklysm, Unearth, Shadows Fall).

"We Are The Nightmare" contains a bonus 45-minute DVD that includes the band's time in the studio, off-stage antics, and some general goofing around. Malone adds: "I can honestly say that this was the best recording experience that I have had in my years with Arsis. Not only was Zeuss great to work with, but Ryan (Knight, guitarist), Darren (Cesca, drummer), and Noah (Martin, bassist) all did an outstanding job. We all worked together to create what I feel is the most accomplished Arsis album to date. I can still listen to the songs, and that's a good sign."

For 3 more samples from the band's latest album, check out their MySpace page.

Arsis - Headlining Tour Not Jeopardized After All

Calling in from a frozen tundra somewhere in Iowa, Arsis frontman/guitarist Jim Malone provides this update:

"Everyone's fine. Hard to believe this happened during the day, but the road is solid ice. The trailer flipped, broke loose of the hitch, and is now stuck in a snow bank. Better the trailer and not us. We're waiting to get it towed, since it's unusable. It's lodged in ice and we can't get to our gear, but we're sure it's all smashed. We need to assess the situation and see how much of our gear still works before we can say anything about finishing out the rest of the tour. We can't afford to buy a new trailer at this point. Again, we apologize to our fans. We'll have an update soon."

Adds bassist Noah Martin:

"We're going to try to find a room up the highway in the next small town. Hopefully we won't have to fight off inbred zombie cannibals? like we need that right now. We are all suuuper pissed that this has happened just as we were getting back on this tour. This sucks a lot of dinosaur dick - and that's a LOT of meat!"

UPDATED on 7 March:

Update by guitarist/vocalist James Malone on Wednesday's "trailer tragedy":

"Things could've been a lot worse, and we came out of this pretty much intact. We have about $1,000 worth of damage to our equipment, though there aren't any heartbreaking losses. Our attitude is pretty good considering what we've been through this past week. We rented a trailer and made it to our show yesterday in Minnesota. The crowd didn't seem to know about the accident, and the show went as well as any show in Minnesota on a Thursday night could've gone. Life is good again."

A photo of the trailer can be viewed here. Fans are encouraged to donate lucky amulets to the band during any upcoming show.
