Evergrey - Almost Whole European Tour Cancelled

Swedish metallers Evergrey have issued the following update on their MySpace page:

"This month is getting embarrassing, for us and the people who we work with. We are sorry to announce, that for circumstances and reasons beyond our control, we are forced to cancel the scheduled Evergrey European Tour in April.

We would like to apologize to all the fans of both bands for the last minute decision and promise to work on getting new dates set up as soon as possible. Its always hard to let people down and both bands were extremely excited to play for all of their fans in Europe but sometimes things apparently dont go as planned. Which makes us in the band really frustrated and mad.

I hope all of you understand that we are a band nothing more. This is what we live off and for, to play and tour, therefore we can promise that we are more sorry than anyone. This might not ease the disappointment for some of you but as said it's out of our control and involves so much details that none of you would be wiser of knowing.

As with the cancelled date in Atlanta we promise to make up for it as soon as we can and get a chance.

Two shows are however still on:

April 04 - Vosselaar, Belgium @ Biebob (support band: Manic Movement)
April 05 - Zoetermeer, The Netherlands @ Boerderij (support band: Mother Of Sin)

We decided that we would just rent a fucking van and travel in total 2500 km to at least play for some of you as all things surrounding these two shows are up to standard and still possible to do. Which the other ones aren't. We understand that people might think that - If they do those show they can do it all - unfortunately that's not true. We would do it all, in a van, if possible but so many circumstances prevent us from it.

What can we say more than that we are sorry."

Evergrey - Atlanta Show Postponed

As posted on the official Evergrey site, due to unforeseen logistical issues, the Evergrey show scheduled for March 12 in Atlanta has been postponed until Friday, May 29th. Both the band and HoS Productions have explored all options in an attempt to salvage the situation. However, it was simply impossible given the constraints of the issues involved that normally are not an issue. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and frustration regarding theshow as everyone involved was looking forward to the special show that was planned.

Tickets purchased for the original date will be honored at the later date or refundable via Ticket Alternative.

Commented the band: "We are so fucking sorry for not being able to play, but the rules of USA's immigration prevents us from doing so. Normally this has never been a problem as the paperwork has always been swift enough, but now, for some reason we have yet to be approved.

Even more frustrating (if possible) is that we will be there, in Atlanta but not be able to perform, We have all our shit with us and everything as we are also going to Mexico BUT WE CANT PLAY: We are so terribly sorry for this, as we are not and have never been a band that cancels, anything. However this is out of our hands? we are looking to make this up by returning in May to perform for you guys and also try to fit some more gigs in there. (We have lost a major amount of money due to connecting flights to Mexico that are already bought and payed for and the petitions we still have to pay even though we arent even approved!)

But at the same time of course understand and appreciate that some our fans loss are hitting them harder. Once again we are as sorry as we can be, but we are a band of our word and will return to compensate, in one way or another. For those of you who are interested we can share the same bench out in a park somewhere before our flight to Mexico takes off on the 13th? Drowning our sorrows in imaginary beers."

Evergrey - New Video Online

MTV's HeadbangersBlog reports:

"Gothenberg, Sweden's meloldic power metal veterans, Evergrey, have "Greyced" us with the premiere of their new video for the song "Broken Wings," from their latest album, "Torn". The video can be viewed here.

Evergrey frontman Tom Englund commented: "When we decided to shoot a video for "Broken Wings," we immediately felt that we needed some sort of storyline that would graphically show the frustration of the main character in the song. We knew that the director who could make this happen was Patric Ullaeus. We've worked with him on several videos before, and he also shot our Live DVD a couple of years back as well as videos for other artists like In Flames, Children Of Bodom, Arch Enemy and Lacuna Coil.

I came to visit him one night, when he was editing the underwater scenes for the video, and when I banged on the door I scared him so much he thought his heart was going to jump out of his chest, he told me later. He was totally into the story with all these strange rooms, masks, rocking chairs and quite a haunting feel to it all.

We wanted the band shots to have an apocalyptic feel to them comparable to the vibe of the film "Sin City," just so they wouldn't stray too much from the story. The basic idea of it could be interpreted in different ways for different people, which is exactly what we wanted. Since all of our lyrics are based on things we've been through, I think it would be great if even one single person seeing it could get some comfort knowing that we all have difficult times and that they are not alone.

When I finally sat down to look at it for the first time, it hit me how much darker the video made the the song. It made me really feel for the female character in the clip. I hope it makes you do the same."

Evergrey - Album Details Revealed

Sweden's Evergrey have posted the following studio update:

"It's been a long fucking year negotiating this deals, not something we've enjoyed too much, it's taken its toll on everything from economy to psyche. BUT now it's finally done and we are extremely curious on what the future has in it's hands for us!

We have made changes in everything surrounding Evergrey, everything from management, record-label to booking and, perhaps most important, changed our own approach to this thing called EVERGREY.

It came to a time a while ago where we ALL were tired of everything surrounding this bitch called the music-industry. It affected our whole perception of what and who we were, it most certainly killed everything close to joy and in the end made it feel like a boring 9 - 5 job where you don't like your co-workers and just want to go home.

But as I said, we've been through that now and coming out on the other end of this rather dark tunnel are 5 guys who have the same determination, goals and fire to keep this ball spinning for another couple of laps!

Here you have the 3rd trailer that I know you have been eagerly awaiting , somethings up with the compression level that makes the pics smaller so those look like shit? but hey ?. you're here to h e a r the God-damned thing, right? It contains all song titles for the regular edition of this release and the release day is the 2nd week of September but, you'll see something will probably come up and change that for the 10th time?..

I hope you enjoy it and we wish to hear ALL your thoughts, as they are what matter the most to us!"

Evergrey - Sign With Steamhammer/SPV

As posted on Evergrey's official website:

"Following intense and very constructive discussions, Steamhammer/SPV have announced their future collaboration with Swedish dark melodic metal act, Evergrey. The deal includes not only the group's brand-new studio album, "Torn", which will arrive at the stores at the beginning of September, but also Evergrey's complete back catalogue. Evergrey mastermind Tom S. Englund is looking forward to a productive cooperation with Steamhammer, explaining: "After long and intense negotiations, we feel that we have arrived at optimum conditions for everybody involved. We are confident that Evergrey will continue to grow artistically under the terms of this contract, that SPV will enjoy our cooperation and - this is definitely the most important aspect - that our fans will thoroughly benefit from the new deal."

The first stage of this ambitious target will see the release of Evergrey's new studio album, "Torn", at the beginning of September, featuring eleven compositions, described by Englund as a "modern mix of "In Search Of Truth" and "Recreation Day". "The tracks are all guitar-oriented and very atmospheric. They have exactly the sound that our fans expect from us." According to Englund, the slightly more experimental direction of Evergrey's previous release, "Monday Morning Apocalypse", has given way again to old strengths and virtues. "Two years ago we needed an album with a slightly different approach and an expensive producer, just to find out how that sort of thing works. It was the right album at the time, but now we have returned to our typical trademarks." This is one of the reasons why the tracks on "Torn" were self-produced by Englund together with drummer Jonas Ekdahl. In addition, the band has a new bassist, Fredrik Larsson having been replaced by former Stratovarius musician Jari Kainulainen.

Since the band arrived on the scene in 1998, Evergrey have brought out six studio albums and one live cut. All of them made the top 20 in their native Sweden and the last two made the top 10 (no. 6 and 3, respectively). On top of that, their DVD was number 1 for four weeks and nominated for a Grammy in Sweden. The band has toured around the globe several times, together with In Flames, Nevermore, Throwdown, Arch Enemy, Children Of Bodom and Iced Earth, among others. Along with "Torn", their new contract with Steamhammer/SPV includes the band's complete back catalogue, so top-quality reissues featuring a selection of bonus tracks are likely in future. "There is so much additional material for each album that we could theoretically re-release it on an extra DVD. Whatever we manage to do - premium reissues are certainly a possibility."

Evergrey - New Album Update

Singer/guitarist Tom S. Englund has posted the following news on the official Evergrey MySpace:

"After a couple of turbulent weeks we have now finally mastered our album. When we listened to the finished product for the first time we all agreed that we were beyond satisfied with the result and can't wait for you to hear it! We have also decided to post video teasers for you to enjoy, there will be a new "trailer" every month up until we release the damn thing and oh, the title for it is "TORN"!

Complete tracklisting will be presented here as soon as we have decided what songs will end up on special editions and/or bonus tracks for singles etc. Other than that I am glad to read that all of you seem to love our new Evergrey "EY" logo. It will look pretty cool on a shirt that's for sure.

Tomorrow we play a show in Mariestad with our friends from All Ends so those of you who have the chance please stop by. Summer festivals and tours for the fall are being booked as I write so be sure to check this area for all official confirmations. We will start rehearsing songs from "Torn" next week so MAYBE, and I mean maybe, we will play some of them in Finland in two weeks. Playing Finland is always a blast and it's nice to be with people that can keep up with us on the booze. Both me and Jari have lot's of relatives and friends coming out to the shows so that should be fun. Tampere on the 19th and Helsinki on the 20th be sure to join in if you have the chance.

So enjoy the music combined with the fantastic photos courtesy of our friend René Asmussen (http://www.reneasmussen.com) - an award-winning Danish photgrapher who have graced us with his work which will be used in the booklet for "Torn". That alone will be worth the money. Please let us know your feelings, ideas expectations after hearing what you now will hear."

Evergrey - Announce New Bass Player

This following text was posted at Evergrey's Blog:

"Our new bass-players name is Jari Kainulainen!

Some of you might know him as a former member of Stratovarius and we are extremely happy to have him in the band as we know he will improve our sound in a great way which he already proved when we rehearsed together.

Me and Henrik talked after the rehearsal and both said we had goosebumps and this coming from a a guy playing bass. Before it's always been like - hey whatever it's only bass - but now we really feel that Jari will bring our sound up to a new level .

We got along great and it of course also helps a lot that Jari is a very experienced player when it comes to playing live with his several world tours together with Stratovarius as proof.

This was one of the main things we were looking for in a bass-player except for the playing of course, so that we wouldn't end up with a person who after 100 gigs finds out that this was not what he was meant for, cause this is, wether you believe so or not, a very weird and demanding life that let's you experience the greatest things in the world as well as the sickest, most draining moments of utter insecurity - that of course immediately vanishes as soon as we get to play for you guys!

We are so much looking forward to the coming months of recording and playing and it honestly feels like a fresh start and an injection I think we needed.

I'm going to leave you with a few words from Jari himself.

All the best

' t

What can I say? When I heard that Evergrey was searching for a new bass player, I immediately contacted Tom to let him know that I was extremely interested!

Then they asked me to come and audition for them. I can't even start to explain how nervous I was!

But everything just matched, and sounded great! And before we knew it we were all shit faced and celebrating the Scandinavian way! See you on the gigs!

-Jari Kainulainen-"

Evergrey - Update

We just received these news items from the Evergrey camp and would like to pass them along to everyone.

As you all know, Fredrik Larsson was the temporary bass player after Michael left. Fredrik has now re-joined Hammerfall. The Evergrey crew wish him all the best in the future. He is still a good friend of the band.

New songs have been and are being recorded. Tom and Henrik are doing all the bass playing in the studio at this moment, so bass is not an issue at this time. Jonas and Rikard are also participating in writing lyrics and music for the new album. The recording session is scheduled to be done by the end of the summer.

The new album will be launched before Christmas. For all Fans out there, this album is HEAVY! In my ears probably the heaviest they have ever done.

After releasing the new album Evergrey will start touring. By that time a bass player should be selected for the band (hired or permanent, future will tell...).

There are also some new endorsement contracts being negotiated at this time. It's still too early to announce as of yet.

A new label is being sought after...more to come on that later.

Kind regards

Z.P.
