Evile - Album Cover Artwork Revealed

The cover artwork for Five Serpent's Teeth, the third full-length album from British thrashers Evile, can be seen below.

The CD was once again recorded with producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir) at Parlour Studios in Kettering, U.K. and is scheduled for release on September 26 via Earache Records. A five-minute album teaser can also be heard below.

Frontman Matt Drake comments: "As is always the case with Evile, we try and do things a bit differently from what we've done before, so we fancied something a bit more design-orientated this time around. It's been done by a great artist by the name of Gustavo Sazes and he really came through for us as we were struggling to find something that visually accompanied the music, so hats off to the man! Make what you will of any meaning you think the cover may hold, much the same as you will be able to do with the lyrical content of the album; we know what it means to us, so enjoy!"

Five Serpent's Teeth tracklist:

01. Five Serpent's Teeth
02. In Dreams of Terror
03. Cult
04. Eternal Empire
05. Xaraya
06. Origin of Oblivion
07. Centurion
08. In Memoriam
09. Descent Into Madness
10. Long Live New Flesh

Evile - Enter The Studio This Weekend

Official press release

Evile are set to enter the studio this weekend to begin recording their third album.

Evile will be playing a show in London this Friday, 18th March with Chthonic, before heading to Prestatyn, Wales on Saturday for a performance at Hammerfest. The band will then be heading into Parlour Studios on Sunday to begin recording the follow-up to 2009's Infected Nations, and will once again be working with producer Russ Russel (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir).

Evile guitarist Ol Drake commented: "This has been one hell of a 2011 already. We've been working non-stop on the material for Evile's third album since early last year, and the past few months saw the workload pile up drastically. We're on top of it though. Tomorrow we play London with our friends Chthonic from Taiwan, then we head over to Prestatyn for Hammerfest. Just like with Infected Nations, we're again heading to the studio shortly after playing Hammerfest, though this time it's the very day after. To the great Parlour Studios we will venture along with the even greater Russ Russell. He was at the helm/desk/brain for Infected Nations, and we see him as a member of the band, even more so on this third offering. We'll be in there for approximately a month, and we'll be focusing on roughly ten tracks to delight your ears.

If I was to say what the direction of this third album would be, I'd have to say a mix of the approach to Enter The Grave, the ideas on Infected Nations and an amalgamation of brand new ideas we can't wait to try out. We have to try out new things as artists; we don't ever ever want to stick to doing the same thing all the time. It will be aggressive yet mature, in my opinion, and before your ask - yes, fast."

Evile - Working On New Material

Earache Records press release

British thrashers Evile have revealed that they are currently hard at work writing for a brand new studio album.

Evile, who recently won a coveted Metal Hammer Golden Gods award, are writing the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2009 album, Infected Nations. The band announce that they will once again be working with producer Russ Russel.

Evile lead guitarist Ol Drake comments: "We're well on our way into writing the material for Evile's third album now. We've been playing around with the odd part and riffs since 'Infected Nations' came out in 2009. I have about ten song ideas which are being built on daily, but not going to stop there. We're not going to limit ourselves this time to a certain number of songs. We're just going to write until it's time to give up and go into pre-production. We've been sending tracks/recordings/ideas back and forth between ourselves, Russ Russell and our management (Wiseblood) and there's an excellent vibe going.

I don't want this to be a typical 'new album' update using the same descriptions and words most bands use to big up an album, so I'll just say the new stuff is really getting my blood boiling and my heart racing. We've been through a lot over the past year, and it's being naturally reflected in the music which is coming out. I've never been as passionate as I am now about writing the best material we can. With Joel in the mix, and him being a die-hard thrash fan since the '80s, I'm looking forward to see how this will turn out. Keep an eye on our website for more details, and come catch us on one of the 77 shows in September-December in North America! (If you don't see me I'll be busy riffing for the benefit of your ears.)"

Evile - New Bassist

British thrashers EVILE have revealed the identity of their new bassist, who joins the band following the tragic and untimely death of their late bassist, Mike Alexander.

Mike Alexander passed away on October 5th, 2009 while the band was on tour in Sweden.

EVILE members Matt Drake, Ol Drake and Ben Carter have released the following statement:

"This has been one of the most bizarre and surreal tasks we've ever had to undertake. It isn't like Mike has decided to leave the band and we're simply finding a new bass player, he was taken from us, and we were forced to replace him. In effect we had to look for a new Mike, but that would never happen. He was one of a kind, and we'll never forget him.

"We had hundreds upon hundreds of emails from bass players from around the world (though we can only realistically have a bassist from the UK), and we want to thank everyone for taking the time out to contact us, and the people who came to jam with us. We only had a certain amount of time to actually audition/jam with bass players before the upcoming tours, to get time in for rehearsing the songs, getting visas sorted etc.

"Our new bass player goes by the name Joel Graham. He's an excellent, experienced bass player, and a really nice guy. We'd all appreciate it if you gave him a warm welcome to the band, as this must be a bizarre situation for him to be in also. We'll be getting some photos taken with him soon so you can see us with Joel, we just wanted to get the news out there that we have a new bassist, and that we thank each and every person for auditioning. Mike would be honoured at the amount of respect and admiration you expressed to us through contacting us."

EVILE are set to kick off a headlining European tour in January. The "Infecting Nations" tour will start with a run of UK shows, before the band heads off to mainland Europe. Joining EVILE on the tour will be American thrashers WARBRINGER and Israel's THE FADING.

The full "Infecting Nations" tour dates are as follows:

14.01.10 Cardiff, UK - Barfly
15.01.10 Wrexham, UK - Central Station
16.01.10 York, UK - Fibbers
17.01.10 Glasgow, UK - Cathouse

Evile - Tragic Death Of Mike Alexander

Sadly, just a few days into their European tour with Amon Amarth, Evile's Mike Alexander was suddenly taken ill and rushed to hospital, but tragically passed away in Lulea, Sweden.

Evile members Matt Drake, Ol Drake and Ben Carter have released the following statement:

"This is so hard to find the words to express fully how we feel. We can't believe or accept what's happened. One minute we're talking to our buddy, Mike, the next minute we can never speak to him again.

There's so many things rushing through our heads that we want to say, do and feel. We half expect him to come round the corner and call us 'dickheads'. We can't get our heads around it.

It upsets us so much that he was away from his family when this happened, although knowing Mike, we're at least glad he was on tour doing what he loves.

We're lost for words. We all miss him so much already. He was such a headstrong, genuinely nice guy who loved music and his family. We've got so many brilliant memories with him.

Our hearts go out to his daughter, family and friends at this tragic, difficult time.

Mike is much loved and is sorely missed.

Rest in peace, brother."

Destruction - Evile Guitarist To Step In Due To Sifringer's Broken Finger

German thrash metal veterans Destruction have tapped Evile guitarist Ol Drake as the temporary replacement for Mike Sifringer for their September 13 appearance at the Caos Emergente festival in Portugal.

According to a posting on Destruction's web site, the middle finger on Sifringer's left hand was broken and the ring finger was cracked "when an aggressive fan jumped out of the moshpit into the crowd with a kick jump" during a hardcore show at the Vlamrock festival in Belgium. Mike, who was watching the concert, "did not see coming and hit left hand with full power."

Destruction stated about Ol Drake, "He's the perfect match: young, wild, talented and a Destruction fan to the bone. The kids will love him!"

Ol added: "I was gutted to hear about Mike's injury. I wish all thebest to him and hope he heals fast! I got a mail from Schmier asking if I could step in on guitar. It was an obvious yes. I absolutely love Destruction so this is a huge honor and privilege for me. Can't wait! It's gonna kick ass. Luckily I can already play a lot of the set being a fan. A huge thank you to Schmier, Mike and Marc for this dream gig!"

Evile - Three New Songs Online

Evile has posted three preview tracks from their new album online. Songs are called "Nosophoros", "Now Demolition" and "Infected Nations". Head over to the band's MySpace page to check them out.

"Infected Nations" is scheduled for release on September 21 in Europe (September 22 in North America) via Earache Records.

Evile lead guitarist Ol Drake commented about the first track "Infected Nation": "Finally, we can show you a track off the upcoming album "Infected Nations", funnily enough the first track being "Infected Nation". It's been very hard to pick out just one track to initially show the world, as there is such diversity on this album and I wanted to showcase the different direction we're going in. I think "Infected Nation" is a good place to start in showing you, as it still has the pure thrash feel to it but with an injection of our new path musically."

More details about "Infected Nations" were previously reported at this location.

Evile - Album Details Revealed

British thrash metallers Evile are ready to reveal to the world their brand new album, "Infected Nations", which is due to be released on September 21st in Europe and on September 22nd in the USA.

Following Evile's 2007 debut, "Enter The Grave" - an homage to the thrash of past - the band are now hitting out and marking a new milestone of their own with "Infected Nations".

Evile frontman Matt Drake comments on "Infected Nations":

"We can't wait for everyone to hear our new album, when we did Enter the Grave two years ago it was made up of songs we had been playing for a few years and some written in the excitement of actually getting to record an album, we were happy to just be making noise but since then we've learnt a few things and we're more interested in making music. Evile fans can expect to hear a more mature offering, an album that concentrates on all aspects of what each member can do; it's a heck of a lot more focused, more satisfying and we're really proud of what we've achieved with it. Russ Russell has helped us to push ourselves to the next level and pull us out of the '80s. The whole retro thing has been cool but we feel it's time for us to leave that behind and stand up for ourselves and show people what we can really
do, but fear not, it IS a thrash metal album, it is a 2009 thrash metal album, and we're dying to blow your minds with it."

"Infected Nations" was produced by Russ Russel (Napalm Death), with the cover art created by Michael Whelan, famous for his sci-fi artworks along with classic album covers from such bands as Sepultura and Obituary. Check out the incredible cover art for "Infected Nations" at this location.

Evile lead guitarist Ol Drake comments on getting Whelan involved:

"When we were thinking about artists we could approach for the album's art, we went through many ideas and avenues. One day I was listening to "Beneath the Remains" by Sepultura, and whilst looking at the artwork, I thought how much that simple yet detailed art really compliments the music. I thought "How good would it be to get Michael Whelan to do an original piece?". I think Matt said something like "Haha yeah, like that'll happen", so as you do, I contacted his manager and got in touch with him. It turned out he was really interested in the concept of the art and jumped right on board. I think an album's art is just as important as the music on the disc, so I couldn't be happier with it. Can't wait to see it on vinyl (with a backpatch maybe?).

Trigger The Bloodshed - To Replace Warpath As Support To Evile

Evile guitarist Ol Drake has posted the following update concerning the direct support slot on the band's upcoming UK tour with Mutant:

"On Sunday 12th April Warpath let us know they have to pull out of our tour (which starts today, Wednesday 15th April) due to their lead guitarist being "indirectly involved in a motorcycle accident" on the 8th. We wish them all the best and hope he has a speedy recovery.

We only had 2/3 days to find a replacement band.

It's such short notice for any band to be able to accomodate themselves to a tour which starts in a few days, which already has arrangements and agreements made, but I want to personally thank our friends Trigger The Bloodshed for stepping up and being willing to take part in the tour in place of Warpath. I'd like everyone to show Trigger The Bloodshed the same respect and consideration they've shown us in this situation by giving them a warm welcome onto the tour at the upcoming shows."

Here are the dates again:

04/15 - Birmingham UK, Barfly
04/16 - Newcastle UK, Academy 2
04/17 - Manchester UK, Academy 3
04/18 - Dublin IRE, Fibber Magees
04/19 - Cork IRE, An Cruiscin Lan
04/20 - Glasgow UK, Cathouse
04/21 - Edinburgh UK - Studio 24
04/22 - Sheffield UK, Corporation
04/23 - London UK, Underworld
04/24 - Hammerfest UK, Prestatyn

Evile - Working On New Album

UK thrashers Evile, who recently announced their first full headlining UK tour, are currently hard at work on the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2007 debut album, "Enter The Grave".

Lead guitarist Ol Drake comments: "We're very glad to announce we'll be working with the brilliant Russ Russell on the next release at Parlour Studios, UK. Russ has produced excellent work with bands such as Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir, The Exploited and many more. We've known Russ for a few years now. We first met him in London at one of our shows where he expressed how much he'd like to work with us sometime, and that time has come. I believe Russ can bring us a very interesting sound and approach to the new material which we're writing. Expect a very crushing and interesting album! The cover art will also be very crushing and interesting! Definitely one for vinyl!

We've been working non-stop on the new Evile material since before the Megadeth tour last February. We're even into the demo process of the new album. Just last weekend we recorded the first 3 demo tracks we completed first. Looking back on what we've been writing, it's surprising how diverse and different the material has got since starting on the first "album 2" song. Don't worry, it's thrash, we're just trying to use our brains more than our 'ripped jeans'."

Evile's as-yet untitled second album is due to be released in late 2009 through Earache Records.

Evile - Guitarist Pays Tribute To Chuck Schuldiner

Evile guitarist Ol Drake have posted the following message through the Evile newsletter:

"With the anniversary of Chuck's passing just round the corner (December 13th 2001) I thought it'd be fitting to make some kind of tribute to him. I decided to record a rendition of Death's "Voice Of The Soul" to commemorate the passing of one of Metal's most influential icons. So here it is, packed full with fuck-ups. R.I.P. Chuck."
