Leaves' Eyes - New Album Due In April

Meredead, the new album from Leaves' Eyes, will be released on April 22nd in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (with more streetdates to follow soon).

Leaves' Eyes vocalist and producer Alexander Krull is doing the final mix of Meredead at Mastersound Studio.

Cover artwork by Stefan Heilemann.

Singer Liv Kristine comments: "As we began composing the first song ideas for our fourth full-length album, all of us were very eager to take another step in strengthening both the individual sound and concept of Leaves' Eyes, like we have done album by album.

Along with the song-writing process, I made up my mind about the songs' themes, and drowned myself in different sources of literature. Some songs clearly needed lyrics rooted in northern history and culture, as well as having mystical themes. Being an Old-English fan, I decided to write some of the lyrics in Old-English, which of course included further studies of grammatical and phonetic knowledge, which I really enjoyed doing. Next to modern English and Old-English, some songs are sung in traditional Norwegian, to keep their strong individuality and focus on certain themes from special genres in Norwegian traditional singing.

The album is given the title Meredead, as one of the songs on the album. It is my own word-creation (at least I haven't found it in a dictionary yet), and it may mean both "dead by/in the sea", or "the mortal or killing sea". In my lyrics you will find traditional themes from Viking literature and Norwegian song tradition, moreover, tales from the Irish isles, some from already existing sources, some made up myself. Sometimes you will hear about men going on adventures, some ending up drowing in the sea, their wives, evil witches, three-headed trolls, or spell-bound princesses, as well as marble halls and blood-thirsty creatures. I allowed myself more freedom for the concept of Meredead, telling a number of different stories, real, mystical or sometimes maybe even both."

Leaves' Eyes - Cancel Remainder Of North American Tour

We saw this coming and the band has confirmed it. Leaves' Eyes has decided to cancel the remainder of their North American Tour after their Co-Headliners Kamelot pulled out earlier this month due to Roy Khan's Illness. The band writes:-

"Dear Fans & Friends, We regret to announce that the remaining dates of our North-American Tour will not take place. This also includes the show in Mexico City. As a result of Kamelot's last-minute cancellation of their headlining tour, Leaves' Eyes still tried their best to play as many dates in the USA and Canada as possible. The big gap between the cancelled Kamelot tourdates and our own headlining dates is just to big to overcome. This made it impossible to continue any further.

We are feeling terribly sorry for having to release this statement as we put an immense amount of energy and effort to make a full North-American tour happen. Everybody was very excited to play in North America and Mexico again. However, the power to decide was not at all in our hands. We deeply regret that we now had to stop touring and return to Europe.

We are very greatful to our fans, friends, Blackguard, the radio stations, all the promoters who made it possible for us to play the shows we did so far. We will never forget these fantastic moments. We really hope that we have better luck when touring North America next time."

Leaves' Eyes - To Play In India For The First Time

Symphonic metallers Leaves' Eyes will have their live debut in India in November! The comment of the band's frontlady, Liv Kristine comes as following:

"Such an invitation from the organisation of the Indian Music Conference makes me feel very honoured and privileged. Thank you for making our dream come true. We are really eager to get to know our Indian fans and friends, moreover, to learn more about your culture, heritage and nature. I've been interested in Indian culture and cooking for years (ask my family and band members about "Friday evening at my house"!), but my kitchen seriously needs some real Indian hot spices and my shelves some new books. Leaves' Eyes in Goa will be just the perfect mix of "musical spices", cultures and interests coming together!"

19.11.2010 IN - Goa, Indian Music Conference

Leaves' Eyes - Part Ways With Drummer, Replacement Announced

Official press release

Yesterday the kick off show of the European tour of Leaves' Eyes together with Kamelot and Adagio took place in Charleroi, Belgium. This was also the live debut of the new Leaves' Eyes drummer Roland Navratil. Roland joined Leaves' Eyes and also Atrocity after the bands decided to continue without former drummer Seven Antonopoulos.

Both bands wish Seven all the best for the future, and welcomes the Austrian drummer Roland Navratil, who played in the past with bands like Edenbridge, Sirenia and Dignity!

Roland: "First of all I like the diversity of both bands, Atrocity and Leaves' Eyes. I listen to a lot of different music and was blown away by the Werk 80 CD of Atrocity. So called "Female fronted" metal bands where always a favorite kind of music of myself, too. That's why I know a lot about Liv and her music and the band Leaves' Eyes. I love to play songs like "Elegy", "Emerald Island" or the new smasher "At Heaven's End"! The first time I met Alex was years ago when Atrocity played in Vienna. I met them and Liv again back in 2005 when I was playing in Germany. As I was on the "Beauty And The Beast" Tour as a session drummer for Sirenia, it was very cool to tour with both bands, Atrocity and Leaves' Eyes. I was excited as they asked me, if I would like to play with them because we had a lot of fun on tour last fall. The rehearsals went great and now I am looking forward to share the stages together! Keep on rockin'! See you on tour!"
