Metallica - Entire New Album Available For Guitar Hero

From the band's MySpace blog:

"Death Magnetic," the entire album will be available for Guitar Hero too!

It's a first in both music and gaming - the same day that "Death Magnetic" hits the streets, you'll be able to download every song from the album for "Guitar Hero III!" We are so psyched that we'll be the first out of the gate with this simultaneous release... who knows, maybe a few years from now this will be the norm when your favorite band's new record comes out.

And for those of you who are anxiously awaiting the next Guitar Hero, "World Tour," we're ready for that too - you will be able to experience "Death Magnetic" for drums, vocals, and guitar when that game emerges this Fall."

The album cover for Metallica's new album ''Death Magnetic'' has been revealed recently. Cover image, wallpapers, icons and more can be found here.

Metallica - New Album Title

Metallica has just announced the title of their upcoming album, "Death Magnetic". The band has been posting teaser images all week leading up to this image. The album is due out in September.

A short video clip revealing the new album title can be viewed here. The clip also contains audio from a new and untitled song.

"Death Magnetic" is "a stunning, overdue return to the shock and rush of the band's speed-metal monuments, 1984's "Ride The Lightning" and 1986's "Master Of Puppets"," according to Rolling Stone.

According to some internet sources, the album will be preceded by an eight-minute single which is being described as "a tour de force that features some of their fastest playing ever." The record is being produced by Rick Rubin (Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and mixed by Greg Fidelman.

Metallica - Mini-Site Online For Streaming New Material

Metallica has established a mini-site to promote the group's forthcoming studio effort. "Mission Metallica" will go live in May for the sole purpose of giving the fans a chance to "experience the new album before it's done."

Check it out at missionmetallica.com.

The band has been hard at 'work' recording the as-yet-untitled, long-awaited new album in Los Angeles with producer Rick Rubin. Motor-mouth Napster-hater Lars Ulrich recently announced that the group's follow-up to 2003's "St Anger" will be released this September.

While speaking with Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson on Bruce's weekly BBC 6 Music radio show, Ulrich said, "We're just finishing up a record, we've got six weeks left and it should be out in September, that's the idea right now." He embellishes further, saying, "I like what I've heard so far. I'm not one of the great sellers of 'the new record's the best thing we've ever done and it shits all over the last record and it's way heavier'. I'm not a great believer in all that horseshit." To finish up, he adds a classic Lars statement that could easily have been taken from the St. Anger period; "I like it and I'm one of Metallica's harshest critics. So far it feels pretty good but there's still plenty of time to fuck it up, so let's see what happens."

Lars told Revolver magazine that the group's new material "is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds," adding, "There's a lot of light and shade in these songs. There's heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there's some slowdowns and musical interludes." Ulrich also said that the album has more in common with some of the group's '80s releases than more recent offerings like "St. Anger" and "Load".
Ulrich wouldn't agree that the yet-to-be-titled disc is a total return to their thrashed up 'widdley-widdley leads' past, saying, "I hate to be that specific, because six months from now people are gonna go, 'What the fuck? Lars lied to us!' But it feels that way to me. It's been no secret that Rick suggested to us that we use a couple of those records as reference points ? that we spend some time kind of accessing that headspace. So when we would come to forks in the road, sometimes the exercise became, 'What would we have done at this point in 1985?"

Bite The Ivory - The Piano Tribute To Metallica

Vitamin Records press release:

"Metallica is the little engine that roars. That's Motorbreath. This heavy metal locomotive fuels its fire with anger, rage, and uncertainty. Your conductors are Hetfield and Ulrich. By making stops all over the world, Metallica has become the most popular metal band of all time. Beginning with 1983's Kill 'Em All, each subsequent album has brought car loads of new fans. The ride hasn't always been smooth, but Metallica has never been derailed.

This Piano Tribute to Metallica pulls away the iron panels of speed and coal-blackened distortion to reveal the fundamental element of the band's success: grandiose melody. With these arena-sized anthems laid bare, the haunting melodies are heard in their pristine beauty. Fortunately, it is impossible to fully suppress the Wagnerian sturm und drang of the music. Enter Piano Man!"

Release Date: 4/8/2008

"The Piano Tribute to Metallica: Bite The Ivory" cover] tracklist:

01. The Ecstasy Of Gold
02. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
03. Fade To Black

Metallica - To Re-Issue Early Albums On Vinyl

Metallica have issued the following update:

"While we're finishing up the new album, we told the dudes at the record company we thought it might be cool to dust off the old tapes and get all retro with some vinyl re-releases... First up are the first two albums (duh!?), "Kill 'Em All" and "Ride The Lightning," coming out on April 15 in North America and pretty fucking close to that in the rest of the world.

There will be two versions... one like the original on a single disc spinning at 33 1/3, the other a two disc, 180 gram vinyl, 45 rpm package all in a double gatefold. The music was half speed mastered from the original analog tapes at Mobile Fidelity to bring you audiophile quality.

Both versions will be available in the online store here and over at Met Club. Oh, and in case you were wondering, "Master" and "Justice" will obviously be next and should be coming out on vinyl in June."

Metallica - New Album Bumped Back To September

Stereo Warning has posted this report:

"The release of Metallica's new album has been delayed again, sources from the band's record label told Stereo Warning. The album is now expected to hit the stores in September. Originally Lars Ulrich said it would be out in February, then the release was delayed till April. With the band still in the studio, it was clear that April was not gonna happen. Fans can take comfort in the fact that the last time the band spent this much time in the studio the year was 1991 and the result was the "Black Album". One can only hope for similar results this time! In the meantime, the boys have lined up a few dates for their upcoming European tour this summer."

Metallica - ...And Recording For All

The following update has been posted on metallica.com today (14 March):

"Metallica left the comfort of HQ this week to descend upon the greater Los Angeles area to begin recording their 9th original album. This is the first time they've recorded outside of the Bay Area since they spent an eternity at One-On-One Studios recording The Black Album in '90 and '91. The last couple days have been devoted to each band member working out the right sounds, including Lars who remembered to turn on the snare and Kirk who played a solo! The big, shiny red button was finally pushed today - and the wait begins."

Some pictures of the band recording the follow-up of 2003's "St. Anger", can be found at this location.

Metallica - Sick Of The Studio Tour Dates

The following message has been posted on metallica.com:

"Enough already with this announcing one show at a time B.S. . . . we've got four more to tell you about!

First up, is Oslo, Norway on July 10th. Last time we were there is it was winter (Dec. '03). . . we're psyched to be playing outside in the summer, actually our first outside gig ever in Norway.

We haven't been to Stockholm, Sweden in way tooooooo long . . . so it's very cool that we'll be back on July 12th to play at Stockholm Stadion for the second time. See how these things work ... 'cause the next show is in . . . Helsinki, Finland, July 15th, our eighth visit to Helsinki and again our second time at the Olympic Stadium. Yeah, there are a couple of days off in there . . . what to do, what to do?

Last tidbit from tonight's update . . . a city we have only played once before, and site of one of the best and most intense shows in 'Tallica history . . . Moscow on July 18th, this time at the Lushniki Stadium.

They're all Metallica shows, with of course a few cool opening bands that we'll let you in on as soon as all the details are sorted.

We have a few more shows in the works, so we'll get back to you soon as they're confirmed . . . keep watching here."

Metallica - Cliff Burton Memorial Stone Sees Final Resting Place In Sweden

A Memorial Day in honor of late METALLICA bassist Cliff Burton was held on September 30th at The Gyllene Rasten venue, located in Ljungby, Dörarp, Sweden. A memorial stone was unveiled at the event, but was recently moved so it would not suffer from the snow and the harsh weather during the winter in Sweden. Click here to view the final resting place of the Cliff Burton Memorial stone.

Burton died on September 27th, 1986 when Metallica's tour bus hit black ice and flipped over in rural Sweden (Kronobergs län).
