Eluveitie - Pull Out Of Paganfest America Tour
Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie has been forced to pull out of the Paganfest America tour, scheduled to kick off on 28th April in Toronto, Canada featuring Korpiklaani, Primordial, Moonsorrow, Blackguard (formerly known as Profugus Mortis) and Swashbuckle. Eluveitie emphasize that this was "in no way the decision of the band and that were looking forward to do this tour a lot."
Commented the tour organizers Rock The Nation:
"Hello to all Pagan folks out there!
We're almost here for the second edition of PaganFest America and are very excited for this years tour. With the anticipation continuing to mount, this will be THE tour to attend this year, we promise!
On a related note, there have been some changes to the tour line up. Unfortunately, Swiss folk band Eluveitie will no longer be able to make it on this edition and we've decided that it would be wiser to wait for the band to return in the fall since they've already played during PaganFest America 2008's touring cycle. On the bright side, Eluveitie will return on a new tour we are currently working on (yes... we're working on something very cool for this Fall) where Eluveitie will play an acoustic and a full metal set and it will be worth the wait. Nachtmystium - Team Up With Jarboe For European Tour
American avantgarde black metallers Nachtmystium team up with experimental vocalist Jarboe (ex-Swans) for the "The Mahakali Assassins Tour", in support of their latest albums "Assassins - Black Meddle Part I" and "Mahakali" respectively. Blackguard - Sign With Nuclear Blast
Canadian folk/black metal band Blackguard, which until recently was known as Profugus Mortis, has won Nuclear Blast's Myspace contest which earned them a worldwide record deal with the label.
Says Blackguard vocalist Paul Zinay:
"We're all ecstatic to find out that we were chosen by Nuclear Blast as their contest winners . To be able to work with such a prestigious label is an honour and a privilege. As we head into 2009 we're all confident that this is going to be a huge year for us and with Nuclear Blast behind us there's no reason why it shouldn't "

"When we decided to organize a MySpace Contest where up and coming (unsigned) bands could win a record deal with Nuclear Blast, we never expected that we would receive almost 3000 entries to check out over the 5 months of this competition! We want to thank all the bands that have participated on this contest trying to fullfill their dreams for a record deal! After listening to all the almost 3000 bands and making a final selection, we have found a winner!! Nuclear Blast is really proud to announce the signing of a very young and talented new band from Canada - BLACKGUARD!!! I am sure you have seen the name online already as they are booked on the Paganfest in the US!! The band has already finished recording their debut album "Profugus Mortis"! The album will be out March 20th and I can promise you this will appeal to all fans of bands like WINTERSUN, ENSIFERUM and KORPIKLAANI but with more brutal vocals! The musicianship is outstanding! Einherjer - To Reunite At Germany's Ragnarök Festival
The Norwegian Viking metal legends Einherjer have been announced to reunite at Ragnarök Festival which is to take place on 17th-18th April 2009 in Lichtenfels, Germany. Furthermore Alkonost and Fejd have been added to the billing. Below the entire statement of the festival:
"For about four years you didn't hear anything from Einherjer, one of the most important bands in viking metal, which split up in 2004. We're proud to announce their comeback will be next year at Ragnarök Festival, which is a great chance for many metalheads to see their idols again or maybe for the first time. We hope that yet another great chapter will be added to the band's awesome history in April 2009 at Lichtenfels and hopefully many other shows will follow.
Apart from that we got two more talented bands to confirm. Alkonost will show us, together with also playing Arkona, that Russia is a country full of very nice, unfortunately outside Eastern Europe mostly fameless bands. Alkonost is nearly 15 years old, but never played in Germany before. They mix pagan, black and doom metal with distinctive Russian folklore.
Fejd's music is a little bit more calm, but very enjoyable. Since 2001 they do Scandinavian folk with Swedish lyrics and a lot of enthusiasm. Ragnarök will be their first show outside of Sweden ever and their very first show at a festival, too. If you love music like the "Urminnes Hävd" EP from Månegarm, you'll love them as well.
With already 15 bands confirmed, advance booking starts today. Tickets cost 35 EUR each and can be bought at the shop on the festival's homepage. Shipment starts at the first week of October. Unfortunately we were forced to increase the price of the tickets a little bit due to the city of Lichtenfels imposing very acerb obligations to us. Tickets will also be available at the Ragnarök's Aaskereia Tour in October. Furthermore we still have festival shirts and girlies of the Ragnarök V Festival at our shop for 10 EUR (original price was 15 EUR), as well as restricted drinking horns for 20 EUR.

Bolt Thrower - To Headline Germany's Party.San Open Air
British death metal veterans Bolt Thrower have been announced as headliners of this year's Party.San Open Air Festival, set to take place on August 7-9, 2008 in Bad Berka, Germany. The band has stated the following about their only festival appearance of the year:
"So, we're very happy to announce that the festival we have chosen to play this summer is the Party.San Metal Open Air Festival in Bad Berka, Germany on 7-9th August. Tickets are only 39.60 Euros, including parking and camping, and the festival is capped at only 10,000 visitors, so considering this and the already killer line-up, it looks like it will sell out in advance. So, we suggest that people who want to buy tickets on the day, should check the availability before they set off, to avoid the disappointment a lot of people had at last year's sold-out Summer Breeze Festival, where they got turned away.

Eluveitie - Sign With Nuclear Blast; Announce Three(!) New Releases
The Swiss folk metal innovators Eluveitie have posted the following on the official website:
"Great news we have for you these days! While being busy finishing up the production of "Slania" and working on our "Evocation" concept we still found the time to travel to Donzdorf in Germany for a few beers & a talk with the people of Nuclear Blast Records (www.nuclearblast.de / www.nuclearblastusa.com)...
Not only did they make us drunk as hell, but they also impressed us with a great artist roster, 20 years of incredible work (happy birthday Nuclear Blast!) and their professional but still very "metal" staff. So we did what had to be done - we came, we saw and we signed. We are looking forward to many years of great work together with one of the world's biggest record companies in metal and are glad to announce that our new full-length record "Slania" will join the legions of legendary albums released by Nuclear Blast at February 15th, 2008!"
The band elaborates on the mentioned "Evocation" concept:
"As we notified good two months ago, we were also working on purely acoustic folk material. This project - originally intended as an MCD only - has grown into something much larger during the writing process, so we are happy and proud to announce that will release one complete full-length album brimmed with mystical Celtic folk music as well as an additional with some new waves of folk metal!
Both releases - belonging together conceptually - deal with ancient Gaulish mythology. Lyrically the songs dip from the source: diverse ancient Gaulish texts that have been discovered as stone carvings, metal engravings, etc. These two conceptual releases are an in-depth voyage through the Celtic soul and include performances of several renowned guest musicians!"
The acoustic album "Evocation I - The Arcane Dominion" is slated for a release through Nuclear Blast in Winter 2008. The release date of the folk metal album "Evocation II - Visions" is yet to be announced. Some artwork made for the "Evocation" series by the artist Manuel Vargas Lepiz, who has already worked with Mortiis, Fanoe and others, can be viewed here.

The release date of the folk metal album "Evocation II - Visions" is yet to be announced. Engel - To Replace Hatesphere On Invaluable Darkness Tour
Gothenburg-based melodic death metal/metalcore act Engel have been announced as support act for Dimmu Borgir and Amon Amarth on their Invaluable Darkness Tour. The band featuring former members of In Flames, The Crown and Evergrey thus replaces Hatesphere who had pulled out of the tour due to their split with frontman Jacob Bredahl.

Pyramaze - Matt Barlow Joins As New Singer
Danish Power/Progressive Metal outfit Pyramaze has found a new vocalist: no less than Matt Barlow, ex-singer of Iced Earth who had decided to leave the heavy metal world four years ago! After Pyramaze had fired their former vocalist Lance King in November 2006 due to "personal and professional issues", guitarist Michael Kammeyer got in touch with Matt Barlow, by now a full-time police officer and lead vocalist of the Delaware First State Force Band, and as of March 2007 he has joined Pyramaze, as was announced today. The first Pyramaze album with Barlow on vocals is expected in next spring. Manowar - Headliner Of Germany's Magic Circle Festival
American heavy metal band Manowar has announced a festival organized by Magic Circle Music, band leader Joey De Maio's own label, at which they will perform as headliners. The festival is going to take place on July 7th, 2007 in Bad Arolsen, Germany (near Kassel in North Hesse). During the announcement at the band's sold-out gig on March 31st, 2007 in Stuttgart, Germany, Joey De Maio has also pointed out that the tickets will cost no more than 10 ?, as "a way to thank the true fans for their undying loyalty during the last two years of unfortunate delays of touring and record releases."

Sonata Arctica - Jani Liimatainen Sits Out Upcoming Dates; Album And Single Details
Sonata Arctica's guitarist Jani Liimatainen has posted an announcement on the band's official website, stating that he will sit out the coming live activities due to civil duty. Guitar virtuoso Elias "E.Vil" Viljanen has been announced as substitute.
The complete translation of the statement from Finnish, provided by Blabbermouth, reads as follows:
"Unfortunately, we have come to a situation in where I'm unable to play Sonata Arctica's scheduled gigs this spring. The reason for this is that I have to fulfill my civic duties. The band will, in any case, perform the agreed gigs with a substitute guitarist and I'm sure he will meet the high standards the fans expect from Sonata Arctica's gigs. I hope I'll be able to return to the band as soon as possible, because the tour break has already taken too long and I miss the sweaty nights on stage and the sweaty days in the tour bus! I want to wish a nice spring to all fans; hopefully we will meet soon!"
