The Iron Cross - Finnish Metal Documentary

A new humorous documentary film, directed by Kalle Kujala, titled Rautaa Rajan Taa - roughly translated as The Iron Cross - debuts today, on the 16th of April, 2010 in Finnish theatres. The film features many important Finnish metal bands and artists including Amorphis, Hanoi Rocks, Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish, Korpiklaani, Sonata Arctica, Eicca Toppinen from Apocalyptica, Diablo, and rising band Dauntless.

The film is a tribute to Finnish metal music and hard rock's success abroad. The main topics of the film include the Finnish government's subsidies for metal music and the current popularity of heavy metal music in Finland. It explores the importance of metal as a cultural export and the reasoning behind tax reimbursements as attested by Mauri Pekkarinen, also know as the "Parliament Terrier", the Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs. Finnish television and radio personality Jone Nikula is also featured.

Shot between December 2007 and July 2009 in Finland, as well as the cities of Brussels, Amsterdam, Milan, New York and Stockholm, the featured bands are questioned about heavy metal music's essence and the conclusion and implications of heavy metal are discussed.

More info at this location.

Metallica - Riot 'Em All In Colombia

Violence and chaos broke out around Bogota's Simon Bolivar park last Wednesday night, when hundreds of frenzied fans tried to crash Metallica's first Colombian concert in eleven years.

Bogota's Regulatory Center of Emergency Services reported that four policemen and four civilians were hospitalized throughout the evening for cuts, lesions to the head and one fractured leg. One youth was stabbed with knife in the hand.

160 people were arrested and property was vandalized and destroyed, as ticketless fans tried to storm the venue in order to catch a glimpse of their "rock-god idols". Radio Santa Fe reported that prior to the concert, there were posts on social networking site Facebook inciting fans to crash the Metallica concert. Estimates of audience numbers by Colombian media sources oscillate wildly between 20,000 and 70,000.

Authorities implemented security measures as heavy as the band's music, with some 1,500 police employed to stand guard during the event, as well as four tanks and several police trucks. There were no reports in the Colombian media that the tanks had been deployed.

The Metallica riots are reminiscent of those that rocked Bogota during a concert by British heavy metal group Iron Maiden in March 2009.

Metallica last played in Colombia on May 2, 1999. To view their 2010 and 1999 playlists, click here.

Angra - To Tour Brazil With Sepultura

Sepultura and Angra go on tour together in Brazil and Latin America for the first time. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"The two greatest metal bands from Brazil, Sepultura and Angra, will go on a big tour together for the first time. The tour will cover all the Brazilian territory and many other Latin American countries. In Brazil, the tour will include more than 20 cities, with shows in the best venues in the country, like Via Funchal in Sao Paulo and Canecao in Rio de Janeiro, during the months of May, August and September.

Sepultura will begin its Brazilian tour promoting their new CD "A-Lex", after returning from a tour in Europe in February and March that included more than 20 countries. The band is already all booked for 2009, with shows in Europe, United States and Asia. The record has just been released all around the world and is receiving many praises from the Brazilian and international specialized media.

Angra, after a hiatus of about two years, comes back with full power to prove that still is the most important melodic metal band in Brazil. The group is preparing a big return, with a set list that includes the band's greatest hits and some surprises.

The thrash metallers from Sepultura, Derrick Green (vocals), Andreas Kisser (guitar), Paulo Xisto (bass) e Jean Dolabella (drums) will share the stage with Edu Falaschi (vocals), Kiko Loureiro (guitar), Rafael Bittencourt (guitar) e Felipe Andreoli (bass). Ricardo Confessori, one of Angra's first member, returns to the group and substitutes Aquiles Priester on drums."

Into Eternity - Guitarist To Sit Out N. American Tour

Official Century Media press release:

"Canadian extreme progressive metal quintet Into Eternity -- whose new album, "The Incurable Tragedy," debuted at 17 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart last week -- return to the road this weekend, when they kick off a string of dates alongside Iced Earth. However, the band's lead guitarist, Tim Roth, is unable to participate in the tour.

The group has issued the following statement to explain matters further: "All of us in the band, and especially Tim, have been looking forward to this tour with Iced Earth for months. Over the years, Iced Earth has been a huge influence on Into Eternity, as anyone who owns "Dead or Dreaming" Iced Earth t-shirt] knows.

Unfortunately, the events of the past two years have recently taken their toll on Tim. Emotionally, he's a rock, but there are some important legal, financial and family-related matters at home that he needs to take care of right now. However, he's given us his blessing to do the tour without him so we can honor our commitments to our fans (who won't get a refund if the support act cancels), and continue to promote an album that we all very much believe in.

Luckily, Sean Maier from our labelmates Blessed By A Broken Heart has agreed to fill in on super-short notice. From what we've seen and heard on his MySpace, Sean's an amazing shredder, and we can't thank him enough for stepping in. Meanwhile, Stu is going to do his best to handle all of Tim's vocal parts, as well as his own. The vocal harmonies won't be as rich, but Stu vows to do the best he can.

Please know and understand that Into Eternity's lineup is not changing, and that Tim will rejoin the group on tour as soon as humanly possible. Again, it's not that Tim doesn't want to do this tour; it's just that he can't right now. Over the last three years, Tim has led Into Eternity through 300+ shows with death metal bands, power metal bands, prog-metal bands, metalcore bands and everything in between. We'll miss him out there, but the show must go on.

Thanks again to all the fans around the world who picked up "The Incurable Tragedy." We weren't sure how people would respond to such an emotional roller coaster, but we couldn't be more grateful for our fans' continued support. We can't wait to see you all on tour."
