Tygers Of Pan Tang - To Record New EP

January 2011 will see the Tygers Of Pan Tang go into the studio to record a special EP to celebrate 30 years since the release of their iconic album release Spellbound. The EP will be titled The Spellbound Sessions and include 6 songs from the original album re-recorded by the current Tygers line-up.

The songs the band have chosen are:

01. Hellbound
02. Don't Stop By
03. Tyger Bay
04. Gangland
05. Take it
06. Mirror

All these tracks will be completely re-recorded.

2010 saw the band record The Wildcat Sessions EP and the feedback was fantastic so the band wanted to continue with this concept. The band have always respected their past releases which form the majority of the live show set so it is a fitting tribute.

The recording will be completed in January 2011 and then following the licence application and manufacture should be available from the webshop from early February. The EP will also be available at the live shows during 2011.

Einherjer - Signs With Indie Recordings

Indie Recordings is proud to announce the signing of Einherjer.

Official press release: Legendary Viking Metal act Einherjer have signed to Indie Recording for the release of their comeback album due out in the spring of 2011.
Einherjer was one of the very first bands to use the Viking thematic and the Norse mythology in metal, and are one of the founders of this now widely acclaimed metal sub-genre.

Their name also origins from the Norse mythology as Einherjer is a vikings life after death. When a viking was slained in battle, he was brought up to Valhalla by the Valkyries, for then to join the army of Einherjers and help the Gods in their clash against the Giants in the age of Ragnarok.

Einherjer disbanded in 2004 after the release of their album Blot through Tabu Recordings. Einherjer was gone until 2008 when they announced their return to the live scene, and in 2009 they played the Wacken, Ragnarock, Kaltenbach and some selected dates on the Paganfest 09 tour. Einherjer is currently finishing up their 5th studio album, still in the spirit of their previous releases.

Einherjer on the signing: "Finally, after a long wait, we're very proud to announce that we have chosen the most dedicated, enthusiastic and hard working label to release our next albums... Indie Recordings! To work with this level of professionalism is something we've always emphasized, and Indie Recordings has shown through the years that they can deliver. This will be the start of a new chapter for us and we look into the future with great expectations and a great deal of excitement. We do it our way... we always have and always will!

More details on the upcoming album and live shows will be announced shortly.

Annihilator - Former Touring Drummer Passed Away

Dave Machander, touring drummer for Annihilator on Refresh the Demon Europe tour 1996, has sadly lost his battle with cancer. Annihilator mainman Jeff Waters released the following statement:

"A few weeks ago (while I was touring in Europe), I got word that we lost a former member of Annihilator's touring lineup, Dave Machander. He passed away from cancer.

Dave was a super nice guy. I met him under stressful circumstances. In 1996, we did a record called Refresh The Demon. Randy Black was our drummer then and I had bought everyone's plane tickets for our upcoming Refresh the Demon EUROPE tour 1996.

12 days BEFORE the tour weas supposed to start, I get a call from Randy telling me that, if I did not pay him dounle+ the money I was to pay him for the tour, that he would not come along and would join another Vancouver artist "Bif Naked" instead (as she apparently was offering more money). I told him that we could not afford this and that it is very, very wrong to hold us "hostage" like this. He ended up leaving for Bif Naked (which ended up lasting one tour and he was out anyway!) but, more importantly, Randy Black left us with NO DRUMMER, a cancelled flight that I did not get my money back for and a tour in 12 days!!!

12 days is wayyyy too short of a time to get someone to jump in and play an Annihilator set and I still had to hope I could find someone!!

Dave Davis, our long-time guitar player, suggested his friend Dave Machander and thought he could handdle the gig/pressure. I was not convinced but had no other option than to literally say "you are in", before I even heard him play drums!

We rehearsed on Vancouver Island, near where both Dave's lived. We had 6 rehearsals scheduled. Normally, for a drummer with us, headlining Europe, we would need 10 reherasals.

Many drummers play along with a "click". That is a cowbell kind of sound that keeps a time/beat in the drummer's earphones and lets him play close to perfect timing... it helps him zoom in and play tighter than without one. Well, Dave was not playing well to it. Turns out, he had never played to one before. I was in panic mode. So was everyone else. So by the 4th rehearsal of 6, I was ready to cancel. Almost. Then Dave Davis said "Jeff, why don't we simply take Machander OFF the click and let him just "feel" the music".

I said "Might as well try, Dave".

We did. INSTANTLY, the guy played fantastic. Really good. Better than good. He then really only had 2 good rehersals with us and then got on the plane with us and kicked f...ing ass on that tour. The guy pulled through and stuck with it. Most guys would have quit after the first few rehearsals but he would not give up. And thanks to Dave Davis for the tour-saving suggestion!
