Mayhem - Cancel North American Tour

Norwegian black metal legends Mayhem have cancelled their previously announced North American "Deconsecration Pt. II" tour, which was scheduled to kick off on April 7 in Washington D.C. and which was supposed to feature Tombs, Ludicra and Krallice as support bands. The band has issued the following statement:

"Despite all attempt to save the USA/CANADA tour we are now forced to cancel it due to the financial situation. We are very sorry for all those who expected to see Mayhem live, we hope the situation will be better next time. We will work hard on getting back over there as soon as possible."

Not having any luck in North America it seems.
Should come back here, I unfortunately missed them on the last tour.

erm... no.

America is huge and very spread out. The same holds true for Canada, where about half the now-canceled dates were scheduled. this impacts a variety of factors that influence tours. (funny you didn't mention that aspect... )

for comparison's sake, the Czech Republic is about 78,000 square km. The STATE of Arizona is 295,000 square km.

for mid-size bands (of which Mayhem qualifies), it is undoubtedly very expensive just to get here, then factor in bus costs, lodgings, fuel, etc.

a package tour like Opeth/Enslaved will pull a good crowd and recoup. a band like Mayhem, maybe not so much.

finally, in regards to tastes, i actually take a degree of pride in the fact that BM is perhaps still more underground than it is in Europe... better underground and in small clubs with dedicated fans than getting Grammy nominations and have tons of bandwagon jumpers *cough* *cough* glomming on.

How would you know anyway Ellrohir? You live in Europe...there is a large black metal following here in North America and I'm sure that Mayhem's tour would've done well...as far as their financial situation is concerned, you have to spend money to make money...even if they had the money in order to get over here and that was it, there could have been a chance for them to break even and then return...

Mayhem's just scared of all our atmospheric black metal bands slaying them in krieg-ish immortal kombat.

Well, at least this isn't the result of more visa prblems (directly at least, but I probably don't know all the details, so whatever).

This is all rather true. Can't say I'm overly surprised the tour got cancelled, which now makes it 2 out of 3 shows that have been cancelled for Mayhem in North America in the last few years. Still kind of bummed about Shining being denied visas, such bs.
