Delain - New Bass Player Found

Following the departure of original bassist Rob van der Loo last month, Delain has sought and finally found his replacement in the names of Otto "The Baron" Schimmelpenninck van der Oye (who also plays bass in Detonation).

"We would like to introduce to you with pride our new fulltime Delain-member, Otto "The Baron" Schimmelpenninck van der Oye, who will replace Rob on the bass. We are very happy to welcome Otto to the Delain family. Starting from our upcoming UK tour, he will join Delain live on stage. We will update our member profiles soon. Until then, you can get to know Otto by visiting his MySpace.

We would like to thank Rob for his years of dedication, musical craftmanship and the good times we had throughout the years. Rob's official last show with Delain will be at the Mezz in Breda (08-04-2010), we'll make this show one hell of a party in his honor!"

I think both of them have some noble blood, so that's the reason ...

Otto is a baron that is right. But Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink hasn't got any noble blood in him.
The way Jan's surname is constructed is quite common in the east of The Netherlands where the "of"is like the english "of" meaning "from"

EDIT.

As far as I know Otto is part of the Schimmelpenninck cigar family, although his parents aren't in the cigar business themselves anymore.
Usually he just uses Schimmelpenninck as his surname cause it is easier.
Let me guarantee you from first hand experience it is a bitch having to write down his complete surname every single time on a cricket match form

Yes, almost every band does. Only bands I can think off without a bass player are Apocalyptica and Sardonis

Come to think of it I think Marco Hietala was the bass player on the first album.

you can't actually expect that to have been a serious reply

what i meant was "you can't actually hear the bassist do anything interesting on the studio album, so it doesn't make any difference".. oh yeah and Hietala is imo regarded as a good bass player solely because he's a good vocalist. he would have gone almost completely unnoticed if he just played bass.

There ar only a few bands wherehe bass player does anything interesting. within power metal I can't think of a single band at all. Here in Delain the bass player is used to beef up the sound that's it.

yeah, i myself used to be a big fan of power metal, but all the bassists just go along with the guitar lines. what's bad is that some of them are actually really fucking good: this is Magnus Rosen, former bass player of Hammerfall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1xuaylIeHs

the only thing i would call close to power metal and having interesting bass lines would be the first 2-3 Nightwish albums, especially the song "Beauty and the Beast" from their first, what's ironic is that when it was originally recorded it didn't have any bass, and that's probably why it sounds so striking, they didn't re-record the album and just added the bass line.
also, i would put Joey DeMaio's old songs in there too, though most of them are far from the general power metal sound(more doom than anything actually, at least the stuff i'm thinking of now)

Joey's bassplaying has always been the weakest part of their music and especially on their first three albums where Ross the boss was the superior guitarist to wheoever played after him. Joey thinks he's a good bassist player where in fact he is as shit as the worst ones amongst them

With the new guy in the band they will only be able to record on vinyl, as his name will not fit on a CD inlay card.

Detoantion has already released 3 cd's via Osmose and there was no problem there, although Otto was only mentioned as Otto Schimmelpenninck there
