...and even a good friend to Dio.
He wasn't. He says he was but even wnendy said Joey was just someone who Dio knew, nothing more, nothing less.

Guys, how dare you fight about Manowar and whatnot in a thread announcing Scott's death? That's shameful. :
The guy is dead. There's no room for criticizing and whining here.

An iconic metal band's musician passes away and already the comment section is teeming with Manowar disses and all kinds of jokes.
No one laughed when Dio died last year, as I recall. Sure he's arguably more of an icon than "some drummer", yet I also cannot recall people laughing or dissing Pantera after Dime was shot, and Pantera had its share of haters no less than Manowar. And no one talked shit in the Sodom obituary thread for former drummer Witchhunter, who arguably hadn't achieved Scott Columbus' stature.
Sure says something about human nature (or nature of certain Metalstorm users), how the news of metal folks passing away has a way of turning from from tragedy to jokes.
If I felt like dissing a departed musician I'd do it over beer with my buddies, not in a thread announcing his death.
Expect many more such announcements soon. The first metal generation are roughly the same age, and when the toll strikes it strikes in waves. As I wrote some years ago on the Witchhunter obituary thread... Appreciate the people behind the music you love, while they are still here. Old metal is a dying breed.
RIP Scott. Only few months ago I watched the "Earthshaker" DVD for the very first time, and little did I know how literally it immortalizes his performance for posterity.

RIP. He was a good percussionist despite what some asshats think about Manowar.

Since when does Manowar play true metal?
I don't want to start anything here, but what makes you say that statement? If there was any group who promoted true metal it was Manowar, regardless if they had a big image or not that some here would gladly qualify as posing? They lived they lives according to a concept of metal which is quite true to me...
what is "true" metal? it's not about harleys, beers and girls you know. that's just a marketing ploy from the 80s. this man, far from being a typical metal musician(except for the album covers), he was a great drummer and actually let the music take second place in his life, preferring to care for his family for a few years back instead of the usual "metal" lifestyle, and even left Manowar after he disagreed with deMaio one too many times back in 2008. deMaio and the current band on the other hand thrive on playing live shows every few months as an average, releasing millions of live DVD's and making pompous announcements and speeches left and right. in the past 4 years Manowar have released 3 live DVD's, one live CD, one re-recording of their previous album, and precisely 21 minutes of new material. how is that "true metal" by any stretch of the imagination?
to support this guy's case though, as far as i can tell, Columbus was the closest to having "the balls of steel" out of the band, unlike deMaio(i refuse to refer to him by his first name ever again, i even hate the guy more than other well-established assholes like Gene Simmons or Paul DiAnno, but then again he'd probably take that as a compliment)

Precisely.
I wasn't dissing Columbus at all, I was just spouting my hatred towards Manowar and how they will probably milk Scott's death. If deMayonaise is good at one thing it is milking other people's deaths for his own monetary gain. Case in point Dio's death. And a drummer such as Columbus does not deserve that, even though he did play in a band I totally despise I do not despise Scott at all.

yup, the thing that completely turned me off of Manowar happened last year, and it was deMaio's appalling reaction to Dio's death. but then again it's like they say: only the good die young.
btw doesn't "De Mayonaise" mean "the mayonnaise" in Dutch?

RIP Scott Columbus. It is pretty unfortunate about him dying. I also hope that there isn't something stupid happening from the Manowar or Magic Circle camp as a result of this, similar to what happened upon Dio's death. Columbus must have been a cool guy.

So far, none of what you've said on this thread has been productive or intelligent at all. For your first comment, he already left the band, twice; and, it is generally insensitive. For your second comment, I don't even know what that means. It's okay not to be a fan of Manowar, but those comments are simply inadequate.

Agreed, despite people not always enjoying manowar's music they are undeniably an iconic band. A band whose former drummer will be missed.

Everything he doesn't like is metalcore. Britney Spears, Elton John, Michael Moore, and green beans are also metalcore, in case you guys didn't know.

they are the epitome of powerless pop rock drivel and who rip off their fans whenever possible. So all in all the total opposite of true metal.
Exactly.
Also, I have nothing against Scott and his death is undoubtedly a sad event, but his drum tracks are quite basic and easy to play.

When did she say that? I remember seeing a video interview with him, Dio and Lemmy and they all seemed to be pretty buddy with each other.
