Bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling (Pestilence, ex-Mayan) has left German progressive death metallers Obscura.

In a statement released to Blabbermouth, Thesseling explained: "Due to repetitive conflicting schedules with job related obligations I have decided to depart Obscura. Beside the limited availability that kept me away from touring during the last months, I feel like taking new directions in my musical development.

Looking back, the cooperation with Obscura has been positive and successful. However, it's time to move on and find new challenges and opportunities for my musical career.

I would like to thank all the fans who supported us and wish Obscura all the best with their future work."

Understandable... but a pity for sure. So now they will get Steve DiGiorgio?

Noooooo!!!!!!!
What a bloody sad news. They just released their best album, and one of their star players leave? Crap. Wishing Jeroen all the best for future endeavours.

I hope they find a worthy replacement for this beast of a bass player.

Christian Muenzer had him on his solo record, so who knows... but I guess Steve lives in the US, so it might not work out to have him as a full-time member.

This sucks.
Now I lost half of the motivation to listen to a future Obscura record or go to a live performance.

Btw, I guess Mike Portnoy will be making some phonecalls when he hears about this
JaimeLeonel - 07.07.2011 at 19:10

Ohh well, i hope they find another soon.
Amatsu Mikaboshi - 08.07.2011 at 00:02
Oh shit.

I loved it every time his epic basswork would catch out the guitars and my ears every time, especially that on Cosmogenesis...

Damn.

This is probably the worst news I have heard all year.
hadriel - 08.07.2011 at 00:36
Damnit, one of my favorite bass players. Oh well, not as upset that I can't make their concert in a few weeks now

Their star player for sure! This is really unfortunate, they were on such a hot streak.
