Marduk - Ink Worldwide Deal With Century Media Records

Swedish black metallers Marduk have inked a worldwide deal with German metal label Century Media Records. Also, the band will enter the studio, right after their tour in December, to record what will be the band's 12th full-length album and follow-up to 2009's Wormwood.

The band says: After a long wait we can finally present the new label. Marduk and Blooddawn Productions have after a long consideration decided to sign a worldwide deal with Century Media Records. After considering all the offers we recived we decided to sign up for Century Media as they have the best experience, power and the strongest plattform for the Panzer Division known as Marduk. Hell no longer awaits. As soon as the band have finished the 3 week Hatefest tour in Dec the studio will be entered for the recording of the 12th studio album. The album is set for a spring 2012 release!!"

Woooow! They went from Regain to Century Media, there's going to be a lot of fans out there that are going to call them sell-outs based on this news alone without even giving the new album a chance. Me personally I think this is a an intriguing move cuz bigger labels (esp. CM) means glossier production. Going to be interesting to see how major label treatment works for these dudes. In either case I'm pretty sure we don't have to worry about these dudes becoming a cheesy sympho band or anything so I'm looking forward to see what they do with major label backing.

I hardly think this would be the case since the production on he latest two Marduk albums was very clean tbh. I doubt that it's gonna be any differences from their current sound. Hopefully I'm right.

Century Media has a way with changing bands' styles. Whether it be production or track lengths or more accessibility, something will likely change.

I don't know their sales figures - I mean obviously they were good enough for CM to sign them - but something tells me their new label execs are going to fuck around with the foundation in order to maximize potential "profit".

Marduk is a pretty big name in the black metal scene; not everyone likes their style but that's not the point. Their popularity could very well be their undoing. It all depends on how the band members see it and what they agree to in the studio.

Exactly. The big labels almost always have their ways of changing things in the bands they have brought out of the underground labels and into the big leagues. Major label execs usually always have expectations and have their ways of coercing bands to change things to maximize the potential profit margin. So Marduk could get changed by major label execs or they may be true and quit CM asap to avoid being told what to do or they may get lucky and the execs won't try to change anything; this will be the true test of their black metalness when the execs come a knockin' during the recording process. But that doesn't always happen so we shall see, I am def intrigued enough to keep my ears open for this new Marduk.

Exactly. I mean there's still a chance CM just want the big name on their roster and don't want to mess with what's worked for Marduk thus far, and that would be perfect for the band since they don't have to change and they get promoted better. Ideal situations like that rarely turn out, but it would be nice to see.

This is GREAT news! It is about time that Marduk gets a proper distribution from a major label such as Century Media. Very excited to hear the new album as well!!!

I think Marduk already had proper distribution... anyway, it's a logical step after the fall of Regain.
Just hope they will keep the sound they have, shouldn't be a big deal since they already have all the stuff big labels look for (bigfanbase,clearprodction,lotsofuselessmerch,etc...). It's not like they have to bow to everything their labels says in order to make a name in the metal world (like lots of new bands do).

"a true test of their black metalness"

not really. CM won't likely fuck with a (boring) tried and tr00 band. It's CM, not Sony.

i can already find most Marduk albums at the local record store..., so to me the whole thing is meh , outside of CM's militant unwillingness to participate in things like Spotify. Spotify gives me a chance to listen to music i am vaguely interested in, but not convinced about plunking down my cash on. I own PDM by them, and without an easy, convenient and legal vehicle to check out their new albums, i simply won't.

That's possible but ya never know, and that's the parody of that statement; they are supposed to be this big unflinching black metal giant [or whatever] and if CM tries to fuck with them then if they were a tr00 black metal band they would simply bow out and say "fuck you" to CM for trying to fuck with their shit.

Wormwood sucked, Plague Angel was pretty good though, so I hope it's more like that....or better, their recent stuff hasn't really been very good...
