Singaporean grinders Wormrot were arrested in Malaysia in the early hours of New Year's Day by religious authorities after a New Year's Eve show in Kuala Lumpur. The religious authorities came into their hotel room.

Azean, the band's manager, explained: "5 of us 6 were taken into custody. Arif (vocals), Rasyid (guitars), Fit (drums), Fit's girlfriend who is Arif's little sister and myself. Rasyid's girlfriend was not taken into custody because she's not Muslim. After several questions and telling us that it is wrong for unmarried Muslim men and women to be in one room, they took our passports and we were taken to the police station to give our statements and call someone to bail us. But in the end we were let off with just a warning. We were nearly fined $3000 MYR ($950 USD) per person if Emi (the organizer of the event) did not call his lawyer up and we being Singaporeans."

"Please do not think badly of the religion. Every religion is peaceful. Like I've said before, in every religion, there's always some people who are extremists. Don't condemn the religion just because of these jokers."

No quarrels with religion Azean. :-) Religious authorities on the other hand...

Just checked the guy's blog. Good for them for going along with the gig and for keeping themselves in high spirits.

Very well said. Even after being arrested for such a "small" thing, they still defend the religion. Respect.

Thats shitty. Especially them being fined.

They weren't fined. And this doesn't even seem to have that much to do with religious authorities. Looks more like one person interpreting some rules to the worst possible end for the band. And that they were neither fined nor arrested (for long that is) shows that the charges had no legal basis after all.

I think you are confusing the terms arrested and incarcerated.

Uuuuuh, they GOT arrested. Like BlueMobius pointed out, there's a difference between arrested and incarcerated. They weren't fined or anything serious mostly because nothing really happened plus the lawyer helped.

Thats what I meant, sorry. :S I didn't know there was a difference.

I feel dumb now.
Troy Killjoy - 07.01.2012 at 23:11
Good thing they were arrested. Imagine what kind of shenanigans those suicide bombers could have gotten into, spending a night together in a hotel.

Not so much confusing as just not knowing the latter. But OK, learned something.

Well, good thing the situation was taken care of the way it did. I'm glad those folks are all right. Also, this guy's attitude towards the incident is really respectable.
Big-Al - 08.01.2012 at 22:15
I'm pleased they're all right.

yep, it's a false friend in English, for example "to molest" in spanish could be misinterpreted as "to annoy"

Anyway, how religion can interfere in something so personal!! I mean, just because women and men are in the same room that doesn't mean they're gonna have sex :S, that's so immature

As an atheist, I sometimes trust religion as a way for people to achieve inner peace and hold values, but this stuff pisses me off
