Nightwish - Win EMMA Award For Imaginaerum

Finnish symphonic metallers Nightwish's new album Imaginaerum has earned them an EMMA Award for best selling album of the year in Finland.

The band had this to say about it: "Yesterday we received an EMMA award for the most selling album in Finland 2011. What makes this extra special is the fact that it did so in just four weeks! Again, we can nothing but bow before the loyalty and enthusiasm of our fantastic fans! Thank you!"

The best selling album from every genre or just metal?

All genres covered. They sold over 67 000 units in about four weeks, which is 3x platinum. This is the fourth time Nightwish have won the award.

Not a fan of the new album, but that is impressive. In the UK metal has very low sales compared to anything made by a reality TV show.

Well... if you play it you'll notice it's not quite a metal album anyway, more like a film soundtrack with some touches of metal, pop and folk.

Irrelevant. Metal is and has been mainstream in Finland for some decade now.

For those interested, CoB won the metal album of the year award. The Emma awards are a joke though, much like the Grammys but on a smaller scale. An entertainment event in the pocket of big labels and media. They are so far removed from the reality of music enthusiasts that it's not really interesting at all.

The fact metal is much more popular and people still buy cd's there makes this possible. Which is admirable.
Will never happen in my country though, 95% of people download everything illegally xD

Wow, I gotta say that's impressive though I'm not a fan of the songwriting in that album...!
