Epica - New Album Teaser Online

Dutch symphonic metallers Epica posted on their official website the first teaser from the band's upcoming album, Requiem For The Indifferent, due to be released on March 9th, 2012, in Europe and four days later in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. This will be their fifth full-length album and it was recorded at Gate Studio in Wolfsburg, Germany, by Sascha Paeth. More album details were previously reported here.

The band comments: "As this is the first video in the series, you'll only hear Arien's drums. However, the next 7 weeks we will add layer by layer, and make the sample longer and longer. Through these videos we will also weekly release backstage pictures, pieces of the album artwork, tour updates, etc, to make the wait for the album just a little bit more bearable! So maybe it is a good thing to subscribe yourself to the official Epica YouTube channel, and be sure you hear the new layer of music as soon as we post it there. All samples are taken from the opening track Monopoly On Truth."

You have got to be kidding me. Teasers are pretty sickening in the first place; but slowly unveiling different instrument tracks of a 46 second sample? It eventually will make a song? WTF? Grow up, Epica. Just release a single of the full song now, or release one later. I hope Epica fans don't have an orgasm over a 46 second drum track. And I certainly hope Epica fans won't jack off in anticipation of what the sample will eventually sound like over a seven week period. Epica is giving their fans zero credit if they think people can get into this puerile idea.

I think its actually a very cool idea. Something different. Haven't seen it done this way before. Cool to hear the different tracks separately. It lets you get a glimpse of the creative process as well. Drums sound great! Thanks Epica

Meh...They want more followers. It's not a glimpse at the creative process, it's a glimpse at lame marketing technique : Make people suscribe to your channel with one product and advertize a shitload of other stuff on said channel. I'll only listen to the seventh layer thank you.

Well, it doesn't make the wait more bearable at all cuz a little revealing stuff can create huge curiosity that kills.

This is lame. I mean, I like Epica but a drum track with pictures? This is supposed to tease me?
Septicflesh made an awesome teaser for The Great Mass and Epica should learn from them.

This teaser just doesn't show very much for the new album. I think I'm going to be in for a first disappointment from Epica. First the weird mechanical album cover and now this. Still its only early days.

Ah, Nuclear Blast with all their goddamn teasers. And for the first time I was interested in one. Meh. At least it inspired me to revisit Septicflesh again.

Why not kick it up a notch and release each individual drum track a week apart? Release the bass drum part one week, then the snare drum, then the high tom, then the mid tom, ect. And then they can release each part on each guitar string seperatley too! Release the high E the first week, the B the second week, ect. Ditto for bass. As for vocals, male vocals one week, female vocals the next week, and then any additional choirs the second week. Which reminds me-what you did for the guitars, you can do for any orchestral parts too! Release the part of each individual violin string over the course of four weeks, and repeat the process for however many violins they're using. Ditto for all other string instruments. Damn, they can be building up hype for years!

I think the idea is kind of cool, how the song is going to evolve over a 7 week span. One moment you'll think it has this certain feeling, then next week a new layer will give it a whole other texture! Well...it could be cool. If it started off will choirs first or a drawn out melody. Starting off with the drum track is stale.
